Midnight Mining Routes: Every Ore, Every Zone, and the Copper Shortage
Midnight's three ores and its Perception-gated rare, zone by zone: the Eversong beginner loop, the Zul'Aman ridge rails, the Voidstorm overload engine, the mounted-mining unlock, and why the cheap ore is the one in shortage.
Mining got the opposite of the herbalism treatment this expansion. Herb farmers lost mounted gathering to the Sky Golem nerf; miners gain it back through knowledge points, forty of them, in the Meticulous Mining tree. That single difference shapes everything about how the two professions farm Midnight, and it is why a miner's route looks nothing like a herber's.
Here is the whole ore economy, the zones that mine it, and the shortage hiding at the bottom of the price list.
The four ores
| Ore | Ranks | Role |
|---|---|---|
| One | The base of everything, and the bottleneck | |
| Two | Mid-tier, feeds gems and gear | |
| Two | Endgame crafting ore | |
| None | The rare Perception find, drops from any node |
Now the counterintuitive part. Umbral Tin and Brilliant Silver look like the prizes, but the smelting chain runs through copper:
Refulgent Copper Ingot, the ingot everything starts from, and the advanced alloys eat copper on top of their own ore. Blacksmiths report exactly what you would expect from that structure, a permanent surplus of tin and silver and a permanent shortage of copper. The low-tier ore is the one the market cannot keep stocked. Before assuming the fancy ore is the money, compare the price board against the volume you actually pull: the cheap ore in shortage can out-earn the expensive one in surplus.
The zone routes
Eversong Woods is the beginner loop. The route is literally the zone: one loop around the perimeter with a short detour through the middle on each side, low mob pressure, Lightfused deposits throughout. This is where a leveling miner should live, and where an undergeared one should.

Zul'Aman is the raw ore machine. The vertical terrain creates natural ore lanes along the ridges: stay high on the rock lines, drop only for visible clusters, return to the ridge. The southern coast carries a dense strip of nodes, and the Wild deposits spawn Rumbling Orelings that attack you. Mine the orelings. They can proc Finesse and return more ore than the node that spawned them, any ore except Dazzling Thorium. Combat-heavy, best raw ore per hour, the same trade the Sanguithorn herb route makes in the same zone.
Voidstorm is the overload engine. The most node-rich zone in the expansion, with Voidbound deposits paying Motes of Pure Void, and overloading nodes here returns the most extra ore and motes in the game. The catch is the overload portal: step through one without the Void unlock in the Over-LODED tree and you can be dumped back into Eversong or Zul'Aman, your session over. Unlock Void first, overload freely second.
Harandar is the one to skip. Vertical, mob-dense, and its Primal deposits drain health while you mine. Nothing it pays justifies the friction when the other three zones exist. Herbers say the same thing about it in every herb guide.
The mote table
Every zone's themed deposits drop their own mote while mined, which makes a mining route double as a mote farm:
| Zone | Themed deposit | Mote |
|---|---|---|
| Eversong Woods | Lightfused | |
| Zul'Aman | Wild | |
| Harandar | Primal | Primal Energy |
| Voidstorm | Voidbound |
Two overload rules worth memorizing. Do not overload Wild deposits: the elite Avatar of Nalorakk you must wrestle to one percent health pays a Perception buff that barely moves mote income, and the spawned orelings drop no extra motes. Save the cooldown for Voidbound nodes, where it prints.
The build
- Meticulous Mining to 40 first. The capstone is mining while mounted, the single biggest quality of life and speed unlock in the profession, and the answer to the question herbers got the bad version of.
- Plentiful Ores second. Yield on every node, and per-ore sub-specializations that raise your odds of the higher rank. Pick the one ore your route produces most of and max it. Do not split points across all three.
- Over-LODED third, into the sub-spec of the zone you actually farm, for mote income.
- Rich Deposits last, inside Meticulous, for the rich node bonus.
Checking this yourself
The method is the same one this site applies to every material: current price, both ranks where they exist, and supply depth, on the materials index. The ores sit next to the herbs and the motes, so the copper-shortage check takes one screen: if copper's price is holding up against tin and silver while its supply looks thin, the shortage is still on, and the beginner ore is still the money ore. The full method for reading those numbers is how to read auction house price data, and the farm's place in the Season 2 economy is in the gold farm ranking.
FAQ
Where is the best place to mine ore in Midnight?
Zul'Aman for raw ore per hour if you handle combat, Voidstorm for motes and overload value once you have the Void unlock, Eversong Woods for a calm loop. Harandar pays worst for the trouble.
Can you mine while mounted in Midnight?
Yes, through the Meticulous Mining knowledge tree capstone at 40 points. This is mining's answer to the Sky Golem nerf that hit herbalism, and it is why the two professions route differently this expansion.
How do I get more Dazzling Thorium?
It is a rare side-gather from any mining node, raised by Perception when it drops. It has no nodes of its own, the same structure as Nocturnal Lotus on the herbalism side.
Which Midnight ore makes the most gold?
Not always the top-tier one. The smelting chain consumes Refulgent Copper for every ingot, so copper runs a structural shortage while tin and silver flood in. Compare price and supply depth on the materials index before committing a session.
Do mining nodes drop motes?
Themed deposits do, each zone dropping its own element: Light in Eversong, Wild Magic in Zul'Aman, Primal Energy in Harandar, Pure Void in Voidstorm. A mining route is a mote farm in the zone's element.
