Which Herbs Are Actually Worth Farming

Most herb guides give you a list sorted by price and leave you to work out the rest. That list is close to useless, because it hides the two things that decide what you earn: how much of each herb the market can absorb, and how much more the higher quality rank is worth.

The second one is the interesting part, and nobody covers it. Gathered herbs come in quality ranks, and the premium on the higher rank is not the same from herb to herb. On one herb the 2 ranks trade within a few percent of each other. On another the higher rank is worth roughly 40 times as much. Your Herbalism skill is the same in both cases. The payoff is not.

The rank premium is where the decision lives

Read that table by comparing the two price columns rather than reading down them.

Sanguithorn has the widest gap on the list by a distance. Its lower rank is one of the cheapest things on the Auction House, and its higher rank sells for roughly 40 times more. If you are gathering Sanguithorn and pulling the lower rank, you are doing close to charity work. If you are pulling the higher rank, it is a real material.

Tranquility Bloom sits at the other extreme. Its 2 ranks trade close enough together that the rank barely matters. It is the deepest market on the list, with over 1.1 million units of the lower rank alone, so it will absorb absolutely anything you bring, but no amount of gathering skill turns it into a high-value herb.

Mana Lily and Argentleaf sit in the useful middle, with premiums large enough to reward skill without the thin market that comes with chasing the rare drop.

The practical version: skill investment pays off in proportion to the rank gap on the herbs you actually farm. If your route is mostly Tranquility Bloom, Herbalism talents that raise quality are close to wasted and you should chase yield instead. If your route is Sanguithorn or Mana Lily, quality is the whole game.

Depth decides whether you can farm it twice

The supply columns matter for a different reason. They tell you whether the market will still be there when you come back.

Tranquility Bloom, Sanguithorn and Mana Lily all carry supply measured in hundreds of thousands of units. You cannot meaningfully move those markets. Whatever you gather, you can sell, at close to the price you saw when you started.

Nocturnal Lotus is the counterexample and the reason it sits at the bottom of this list rather than the top. It is the most expensive herb here by a wide margin, and at 46,194 units listed it has the thinnest market on the list by a factor of 4. It has one rank rather than two, which is itself a signal: it is the rare drop, not a farmable staple. A serious afternoon of farming it is enough volume to be noticed by the market you are selling into.

That is not a reason to never pick it. It is a reason not to build a plan around it.

What to actually farm

Three answers, depending on what you want.

If you want reliable income with no thinking: gather Tranquility Bloom. The market is bottomless, the price is stable, and rank barely matters so you do not need specialisation to make it work. It will never be exciting.

If you want the best return on gathering skill: gather Sanguithorn or Mana Lily and push quality. These are the herbs where the higher rank is worth a large multiple of the lower one, and where talents and specialisation translate directly into income. This is the correct answer for most players who have invested in the profession.

If you want the highest price per unit: that is Nocturnal Lotus, and you should treat it as a bonus rather than a plan. Pick it when it is in front of you.

The wrong answer, and the one most guides steer you toward, is to sort by price and farm whatever is at the top. That gets you the thinnest market on the list.

Which herb makes the most money?

The one where you can reliably gather the higher rank and the market is deep enough to absorb it. On the current list that points at Sanguithorn or Mana Lily rather than at the most expensive herb.

Are Herbalism specialisation talents worth it?

On herbs with a wide rank gap, yes, clearly. On herbs where the two ranks are priced close together, the quality talents do very little and yield talents are the better investment. Check the gap on the herbs your route actually produces before spending anything.

Why does the same herb have two prices?

Because they are two different quality ranks, sold as separate items under the same name. Higher ranks come from higher gathering skill and are worth more, sometimes dramatically more.

Should I farm Nocturnal Lotus?

Pick it when you see it. Do not plan a session around it. It carries the highest price and the thinnest market on the list, which is a combination that pays once and then stops paying.

Does my server affect herb prices?

No. Herbs are commodities and are priced across the whole region, so every player in the region trades in the same market.
