TBC Gathering Routes: Every Herb and Ore Circuit in Outland
Where every Outland herb and ore actually spawns, the zone circuits that collect them, the mote byproduct nobody counts, and why Mana Thistle has no route but pays like it does.
Gathering in Outland is two professions pretending to be four. Every ore node is secretly a partial Primal Earth farm, every herb route doubles as a motes-and-cloth grind through the mobs you clear, and the zones themselves stack: the best Adamantite circuit in the game runs through the best primal farming zone in the game. This guide covers where everything spawns and the circuits that collect it, built to run alongside the primal farming routes rather than compete with them.
The materials map
| Material | Type | Where | Route quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ore | Every zone, densest in Hellfire Peninsula | Leveling circuit | |
| Ore | Nagrand above all, then Blade's Edge, Netherstorm, Shadowmoon | The money circuit | |
| Ore | Random replacement node, anywhere | No route exists | |
| Ore | Bonus from mining Outland deposits | Byproduct | |
| Herb | Every zone | Volume | |
| Herb | Every zone, open flats | Volume | |
| Herb | Terokkar Forest tree lines | Circuit | |
| Herb | Zangarmarsh and instance trash | Circuit | |
| Herb | Netherstorm | Circuit | |
| Herb | Remote high-level pockets, max skill | No dependable route |
Ore: Fel Iron first, Adamantite forever
Fel Iron is everywhere, which is exactly its problem: it is the leveling ore, the price reflects bottomless supply, and its circuit is Hellfire Peninsula mainly because that is where you happen to be at the start. Mine it while leveling, sell the surplus, and do not organize a session around it.
Adamantite is the ore that pays. Nagrand is its home: the zone's wide oval shape makes a natural flying loop that grazes every hill cluster and mesa shelf, and Rich Adamantite deposits sit along the same circuit in the higher terrain. When Nagrand is crowded, Blade's Edge and Shadowmoon carry comparable spawning with worse terrain, and Netherstorm's scattered islands reward the patient.
Khorium deserves one honest sentence, because a whole genre of guide pretends otherwise: it spawns as a rare replacement for a Fel Iron or Adamantite node, in any zone, with no pattern, and anyone selling a guaranteed Khorium route is selling something. Mine your Adamantite circuit; a Khorium node will eventually appear in it; its price is the market's way of apologizing for the wait.
The quiet income is Eternium, which arrives as a bonus from ordinary Outland deposits and adds up over a session without ever being the reason for one. And remember the mote rule from the primal guide: successful mining drops Motes of Earth, with Adamantite-class deposits around twice as generous as Fel Iron. An hour of Nagrand ore is secretly half an hour of Primal Earth income, which is why gathering and elemental farming should never be planned as separate evenings.
Herbs: volume zones and destination herbs
Felweed and Dreaming Glory are the volume pair: they spawn in every zone, they feed the flasks and elixirs the whole raiding population refreshes weekly, and their price is stable in the way bottomless supply makes stable. Any loop through any zone collects them. Zangarmarsh is the classic Felweed ground; the open flats of Nagrand and Blade's Edge favor Dreaming Glory.
Terocone is Terokkar's herb, growing along the tree lines, and Terokkar rewards the herb-miner who follows the forest edges rather than the open roads. Its circuit stacks naturally with a Skettis daily run, since the tree platforms of Skettis sit at the top of the same zone.
Ancient Lichen is the quiet specialist: gathered in the marsh zones and dropped heavily by the trash of the Coilfang instances, which makes it the herb your dungeon group farmed without noticing. Tanks and healers who run instances anyway should vendor nothing and check the auction house first.
Netherbloom is Netherstorm's own, scattered across the broken islands alongside the mana elementals of the Primal Mana circuit. One flight, two incomes. The same zone's far northern pockets are also one of the handful of places Mana Thistle deigns to appear.
Mana Thistle is the herb that breaks the format. It spawns only in remote high-level pockets: the far north of Netherstorm, the far east of Shadowmoon Valley, the reaches around Skettis, and it takes max gathering skill to pick. There is no dependable route, supply is permanently thin, and it prices accordingly as the anchor of the highest flasks. The correct approach is to know the pockets, sweep them between other circuits, and treat every pick as the small lottery win it is. Nightmare Vine, Shadowmoon's herb, sits one tier down: a real circuit through the zone's broken shelfs, steady demand from raid consumables, and less competition than Nagrand ever sees.
Putting a session together
The strongest single gathering hour in Outland is the Nagrand oval: Adamantite and Rich Adamantite on the hills, Dreaming Glory on the flats, Felweed throughout, Motes of Earth and Water from the nodes and pools, and the Elemental Plateau sitting in the middle of the loop when the primal prices say it is worth the detour. Netherstorm is the second choice: Netherbloom plus Mana Thistle pockets plus Primal Mana, one island chain at a time. Terokkar is the third: Terocone lines, Skettis dailies, and arakoa Shadow Dust, the session that pays in three currencies at once.
Sell into raid demand. Flask and elixir materials move hardest on raid nights and soften midweek, the crafted epics that eat Primals and herbs follow the raid lockouts, and the launch price patterns guide explains the rhythm that repeats at every scale from expansion launch to weekly reset.
FAQ
Where is the best Adamantite farming route in TBC?
Nagrand, on a flying oval around the zone that grazes the hill clusters and mesa shelves. Rich Adamantite shares the same terrain. When crowded, Blade's Edge and Shadowmoon are the substitutes.
Can you farm Khorium directly?
No. Khorium is a random replacement for Fel Iron and Adamantite nodes with no zone bias or pattern. Run the best Adamantite circuit available and accept Khorium as the bonus it is.
Which TBC herb sells for the most?
Usually Mana Thistle, because it spawns only in remote pockets at max skill and anchors top-end flasks. Nightmare Vine and Terocone follow. Check your own auction house weekly; herb rankings move with raid demand.
Do mining nodes drop Motes of Earth?
Yes. Fel Iron deposits reference roughly a 10 percent chance, Adamantite-class deposits around 20, usually two to four motes on success. Ore routes are partial Primal Earth farms, which the primal routes guide prices properly.
Is it better to sell herbs or craft with them?
Depends entirely on your profession and your realm's flask prices versus material prices. The method that answers it in one minute is in the recipe profitability guide, and the same four numbers apply to Outland materials as to anything current.
Should I level Herbalism or Mining first on a fresh 70?
Both, if you can spare the slot, because Outland gathering routes stack by design. If one: Herbalism pays better relative to time on most realms this phase, and the gold ranking logic of deep markets and steady demand applies to TBC herbs just as it does to current ones.
