Since a lot of players are confused on this item, I'll take the liberty of clearing up the proc. It makes the next spell you cast within the next 4 seconds after proc'ing instant cast. This includes everything from Lightning Bolt to your Hearthstone. The only thing I know it doesn't make instant are thrown grenades and the like. Most players take the proc as the spell needs a 4 second or less cast time to be instant, when it doesn't. Any spell becomes instant cast, but the buff only lasts for 4 seconds. I've heard that if it procs it'll instant cap AB flags, but I haven't tested it myself.

Yes, the proc did allow for instant flag caps in BG's once upon a time, but... no longer obviously. If one remembers how the very first AV games progressed (or didn't progress rather), one can understand how valuable this proc was.

This is a GREAT item for anyone who can use one-handed maces and is a caster. However, it is VERY expensive, i've seen prices up to 800g for this thing. If you have the time or money and really want this, go for it. But if you're level 57, you might want to wait until 60 and get an item from one of the endgame instances.

The one sole reason I can understand the nerf would be due to Paladin tanking. This weapon would be close to how some hold Thunderfury as the end-all, be-all for Warrior tanking due to the proc. If you're a Paladin tank, you could have swung this around with Seal of Righteousness and when it procs, give yourself an instant Holy Light heal. Aside from being healed, It would be extra threat to everything around, not to mention your heal would be causing +90% additional threat due to Righteous Fury. That would make the weapon still viable at 70, which is something Blizzard doesn't want with pr

Sorry to break it to you, but Paladins have a 50% theat modifier on thier heals so that they wouldn't be able to just heal them selfs while holding aggro. And Righteous Fury only works on holy damage delt, not holy healing done.

Magmy+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Wrong. It affects all Holy threat, which Paladin heals are Holy therefore it does increase the threat from heals. If you want confirmation, look under the comments for Righteous Fury on this website. Regardless, even if it would be minor threat from the heal, it still IS more threat.

Acidpants220+14via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

The reason for the nerf was due to the fact that the proc was just as valuable at 70 as it was at 60. Blizzard doesn't want old world items to be superior to BC items, and the Hand would still be a pretty great item at 70 in some situations. Now this it has Spell Haste, it will get worse as you get higher in level, effectively limiting it's usefulness Another example of a pre-BC item that was nerfed for this reason was the Hand of Justice. Indeed, the first proc this weapon had was "Next spell cast within 4 seconds will cast instantly" but it no longer has this proc. This weapon has gone through many changes, so what you may hear about it may now be false and old information. The new proc is shown above on the item description.

[ul] [li]The effect procs only from melee attacks; it will not proc from any spells.[/li] [li]The effect lasts for 4 seconds. As long as a spell is being cast before the buff runs out, the spell will still receive the full benefits of the effect.[/li] [li]This weapon has very little use outside of twinking. (Or maybe you will fancy collecting Edward the Odd's other gear.)[/li] [/ul]

It seems in patch 2.3 the mace is nerfed again, with the time in which you can cast your next "half time" spell reduced to 6 seconds from 10 seconds... it really is curious as to what the logic behind this is... It's already been reduced in usefulness from an epic to a blue, and they should probably change the item colour to reflect that.

This is the ideal mace for the Hobbs' style pulls. After watching Hobbs I decided to make a pally and my friends got me up pretty fast. Although I didn't have the Skullflame Shield like Hobbs I did get Draconian Deflector and I put a mithril spike on it. Although I don't grind like Hobbs does I do find his method of pulling good for tearing through quests solo. But yea, if your a prot pally and are tired of fighting mobs 1 or 2 at a time, have some of your friends do a few Scarlet Strat runs and pray that this mace will drop, lol.

With the latest (patch 2.4) change to the weapon, this definitely makes it worthwhile at the level it's available again. It's kind of encouraging Blizzard is using their new spell haste buffs to renew the glory of this once hugely covetable weapon. Might be the new shaman twink weapon of choice in 50-59 bracket.

118610+7via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I disagree about this mace being worthwhile with the recent 2.4 change. The only time it was ever worthwhile was when the proc provided an instant spell cast. So long as you have to interrupt your melee auto-swing and character movement in order to take advantage of the proc by starting the cast for a spell, this weapon will always be too situationally dependent. Still a fun item to own though, if only for the novelty.

Depending on the procrate (which I don't know) wouldn't this weapon be really good as an offhand for rogues now that the haste rating is for both spells and melee? Rogues care a lot about haste rating and while this may not last long it may be a significant average haste rating... Just thinking though, feel free to rate me down if my thinking fails.

Zakton+3via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I thought this might make a good off-hand for my rogue due to the fast speed and proc. But it doesn't proc often enough (especially in the off-hand) and only lasts 4 seconds. I'm glad I didn't pay a lot for it.

Ok, a quick question out there for all you shammies that have this thing lying around in your bank still form god-knows how long ago. Could this be viable at 80 in OF with say flametongue on it? I dont know the numbers, not my dept, sorry. But imma have to try it out and see what happens

Notice how every expansion has Edward the Odd coming back. His mace in Vanilla WoW, his robes (Will of Edward the Odd) in TBC, and now his signet ring in WotLK. Makes me wonder just who was that guy, and how come the level of his different gear pieces varies so much. Maybe that's why they called him "Odd".

Well, whoever Ed was he sure had an interesting choice in gear... The Will of Edward the Odd (along with the Mace) suggests he was a sort of Clerical figure. But he must have chosen to change careers or was `adopted` by the Lich King since the Signet of Edward the Odd is anything but a Cleric`s (or any other general cloth wearing caster) ring. However, with this much haste rating we can all agree that Ed was always in a hurry. (Maybe that`s why he wore the Robe as well, since nothing is lighter than cl

I'm interested in using this on my enhance shaman. He's 57 and for this level not much else does as good white-hit dps as this mace. It has an unfavorably high attack speed, but as WF is a flat rate percent not a PPM that would lead to more frequent WF with this weapon, meaning more haste procs that would also effect your main hand. Also an enhance shaman gets attack power from that int, and it's a decent amount of int for the level. Thinking about the decent int and fairly high base damage, as well as WF not being PPM, I think this is worth a shot as an off hand for enhance shamans. I'll try it out and report back how long it might last me, currently I'm having trouble finding weapons I'd want to replace my highly outdated Bonesnappers

Ardencroft+1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Windfury DOES have a 3 second internal cooldown, making this a poor choice despite the int bonus. i have to say, the only class i could consider this being a solid weapon for at this point in the 59 bracket is rogue. although the stats are useless, the fast attack speed which can proc energy gains, and the fact that this proc was changed to a flat haste bonus would make it a solid choice for mace combat rogues. A shammy would see a significant increase in DPS with a slower, albeit, lower dps weapon.

Seems to be linked with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44308, which also gives haste. This Edward seems like a speedy guy. Edit: Also http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31340. Hmm, seems like this guy is somesort of, paladin, rogue, caster ... hmm.
