Flying Machine

This is the new Engineer-only 60%/Blue Flying mount in 2.3. The Epic/280% speed one is [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34061]here[/url]. The [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11291]Star Wood[/url] used to make this is sold by Grand Master Enchanters and Enchanting Supplies vendors.

Save yourself a lot of money. You can buy the Adamantite Frames and the Fel Iron Bolts from the engineering vendors / spare part vendors in Area 52 and The Stormspire. For the next part you can buy the Felsteel Stabilizers from the Area 52 vendor as well.

Add the Khorium Power Core to the list.

I might not be checking these vendors often enough, but I guarantee you won't be the only person camping them. I found it took less time to just farm the gold and buy the mats than to wait on the vendors.

The point of buying the mats instead of farming money/items is that it will take less time. You can just put an alt there with some cash and check onto it before and after you log onto your main, before or after doing an instance... etc. It just saves you the pain of farming.

Don't worry about losing this when you upgrade it, there are no visual differences other than the addition of a Hula Girl Doll on the dash to the epic version.

actually, there is more paint on the epic one. The front has eyes and a mouth painted on it. Much like the goblin rocket launcher.

yes, but if you have high enough engineering to use it you can make your own. so unless you sell it for less than the total cost of the mats, there's no point.

This is a general thing with Engineering devices. If you can use them, you can make them (with the exception of Goblin/Gnomish items) so except for those, they don't sell well.

well i have sold like 3-4 flying machines on AH =), and price was bout 400 -500. I dont really know who buys them maybe ppl just want achievement for having lots of mounts or they just have the monneeyy and they r lazy to make it by themselfs.

on the EU PTRs, the trainer (a green haired gnome) is standing in SMV in the alliance base only (in the center, close to the forge) :)

someone already found teh trainer for horde side?he seems to be in smv but where <,<

i dunno if its been said but u can have ur HS on area 51 or someplace each day log and buy mats they sell it along(engineering supplies guy ) with other engineering goodies ^^

HORDE can also learn the pattern from the trainer in the ALLIANCE BASE in SMV! She´s standing close to the forge. Just fly in, talk to her, learn pattern, fly out! :)

for the elemental seaforium charges you must be at least revered with The Consortium faction to buy the schematic to make them or buy the charges from other engineers who are revered

Are these the right mats? Cause I started farming them from now, I want to craft it as soon as the patch comes! :P

so you dont need flying skill for this? since the item says only the required engineering, while a regular flying mount says that you need this and that flying skill.. pls update me on this!

You need to have the flying skill. Regular flying for the first mount, elite flying for the faster one. So you'll still need to spend the 5,000 gold for the fast mount :-)

This item also binds on use, not pickup, so it can be sold in auction house or made for a friend or whatever I wonder if it'll be like that in the live patch,

I assume it will be, many other engineering items are like that. You can't [i]use[/i] it without 350 Engineering, though, so the only people that would buy it would be people who are level 70 and don't feel like getting the materials necessary to craft their own (or don't want to get the schematic, etc.) It won't be possible to sell these to players in general (well, it may be possible to [i]sell[/i] them, but you'll have very unhappy customers), since they won't have the required engineering skill to use the mount.

I was wondering if anyone could confirm the required engineering to craft this? I'm aware that it says 350 to use, but I've seen people say it requires 360 and 350.

Note, the mount with the flames on it is actually the epic version. The rare version listed here does not have any frills like paint or the hula girl on the dash. I can't confirm that it takes 350 to make, but it only seems logical that it becomes available at 350 to make and fly as the epic version does at 375.

FUN FACTS!!!

It does have a chance to fail. When sitting idle the engine will stall. If you are hovering on the ground the vertical prop is retracted and it will not touch down in hover mode unless it stalls out, when it does it slams down and you try to crank the engine twice and you're hovering again. As far as I can tell this animation only occurs when idle not during ground or flight movement. When hovering in flight mode vertical prop extended, the engine stalls and the props bend slightly as it drops probabaly 5 to 10 yards give or take, the engine will kick in again and pulls you back up. I've had a blast with mine so far, can't wait till it hits live!

It looks like the no flames was a recent change to differentiate the rare flyer from the epic one.

Another fun fact! The carrot on the stick and riding crop both work with it!. WTF!

Spacebar works as /mountspecial for ground mounts.

...spacebar will work for ground mounts [i]as well as[/i] any flying mounts that are not allowed to fly - for example, if you have flight training and a Horde wyvern (or Alliance gryphon) but not a flight licence for the bulk of Azeroth and try to lift off. From my observations, the goblin trikes are the only mounts I've come across that don't have a /mountspecial special. A shame... they could at least rev the engine or something. Even the worgen running wild have one.

I think it is a bit of a letdown that the Flying Machine is made only 6 (six!) parts. It would be much more "realistic", and also more constistent with Blizzard views regarding to Engineering if the Airplane would need at least three full bags of parts. And then not having to buy 225 Riding skill. But hey, let us not despair -- 2.3 is not here yet...

I disagree, engineering has always been one of the more useless professions (PvP aside) so I for one am pleased to get a really cool mount that can be crafted from readily available mats.

What? You can make it at 350 engineering. The max is 375. I'm doubtful it ever turns yellow, let alone green.

that information is in the patch notes; the Horde trainer is not, hence why the comments on the Horde Trainer: "Engineers can now create incredible new flying machines! Find Niobe Whizzlespark in Shadowmoon Valley to learn these fantastic new plans."

On the PTR Nov 9th, the mats have changed slightly. Instead of a Fel Iron toolbox, it requires 5 adamantite bars.

The vertical prop (propeller) retracts when running along the ground. As mentioned, when sitting still, it'll occasionally turn off for a few seconds. By far the best mount ever (except maybe the epic flyer version)

who teaches this recipe and where? i understand i need lvl 70, that's no problem, i also understand i must have 350 engineering, have 359, so? where do i get the recipe?

Trivia: This IS the Gyrocopter unit from WC3. However, in that game, they were piloted by dwarves(not gnomes). Also, these aces were known for one of the most brilliant death quotes in the game... They came from...behind!

This does not turn yellow at level 370, so if you are short on cash(ie<100g) it might be more interesting to make 5 flying machines at that point with a guarantee to get to 375 instead of Khorium Scope. Flying machine will not probably not sell, while Khorium Scope does, but the mats are easy to farm yourself than Khorium Scope mats, which needs 10 dawnstone/ 20 khorium you'd probably will need to buy. So to get from 370-375 you'll have to gather: 230 Fel Iron Bars 65 Adamantite Bars And while you are mining the required fel iron and adamantite, you should have enough motes of earth and fire.
