When escaping the mines, DON'T hearthstone out...it doesn't work. Returned to the mines, entered to where we started, and came out, but nowehere to hand quest into and when I abandoned quest there is no-one to take it from.

Vanessa hands the player a bottled mixture and tells them to drink it.
Vanessa VanCleef says: You're slow, and I want to get out of here. Take this elixir, let's go!
Vanessa and the player are periodically attacked by Defias thieves - who now bear no loyalty to their former leader.
Defias Thief says: Down with VanCleef!
Defias Thief says: Hand over all your coin!
Defias Thief says: The coffers of Stormwind will be ours!
Defias Thief says: Is this enough "principle" for you, VanCleef? Give me your coin!
The pair eventually escape, and make their way to where [npc=198924] and [npc=198922] are waiting for them.
[npc=198923] says: The Brotherhood has turned against me. Clessington and [npc=200317] lead them to attack Northshire, and then Stormwind itself.
Master Mathias Shaw says: Northshire? They'll wipe out the new recruits posted there!

Description
I should have known. I lost control of the Brotherhood the moment those pardons were offered. Anyone with principle is long gone. It's only the brutes left, now. And Duncon Ratsbon was always the biggest brute of them all. Let's get out of here, {name}. If any of these fools try to get in our way, let's teach them a lesson about standing in the path of a VanCleef.
