Sometimes, I noticed that even though I'd have a ram with me, I was unable to turn it in. From my own experience, here's how you can avoid this bug:
1. Get a ram using the traditional method.
2. Head back to the questgiver and WAIT for the ram to be next to you. You can return to the questgiver more quickly by using a leap-like ability up the short cliff.
3. Talk to the questgiver and use the chat option to turn in the ram.
4. WAIT until the ram disappears before turning in the quest.
5. Repeat
I've seen posts from last year saying that this gave 2% progress towards the mount. I was only getting 1% for each turn in?
Anyway, here is how to easily get between the quest giver and the rams. I hope this is allowed. Shoutout to the hunter that kindly taught this to me.
- Go south of the quest giver, past the 2 gryphons, and jump off the ledge. Screenshot here.
- Find a ram, tame it.
- To get back up, go to the exact slope I'm facing in this screenshot. This is behind the south bunker, and you can see the same gryphons from before in the upper left.
- Autorun up the slope whilst spamming jump. Eventually you will be able to get back up.
Mounts around the size of horses seem to have an easier time with making the jump.
Some tips:
- Make sure you wait for the tamed ram to catch up to you before turning in the quest or else it won't disappear.
- If you forget to, wait by the quest giver until someone else turns the quest in. Your ram will also disappear along with theirs.
- Hunters, turn on beast tracking.
- Make sure you get the Stormpike Insignia from the Prospector Stonehewer on the left BEFORE you start the bg. She will not be there once the bg starts. This will teleport you to Dun Baldar. It is free. Use /tar Prospector Stonehewer as she can be hard to see sometimes.
Hope this helps!

Description
Just look at the stables, {name}! Empty! The Stormpike Brigade has no rams to ride - the cavalry is defunct. You must help us, soldier. Take this training collar and enter the wilds of this valley. Locate the Alterac rams that roam throughout the area and use the collar to snare one. When you have captured a ram, return it to me and I shall place it in our stable. When we have enough rams, the ram rider commander will be notified. With your help, the cavalry will be reborn!
