TheWoWDBAs of patch 4.0.6, all pets with wings can now fly with you on a flying mount. Previously a lot of them, especially Classic/TBC companions were ground-only even with wings, such as this one.

I know this was said on the item you loot to get this pet, but I will say it here, he is lootable from 3 whelplings in the Wetlands they are..

Crimson Whelp
Red Whelpthe chance to loot one of these cut little guys is about .2-.3% per kill, I just got mine today after killing about 400 of the buggers.
A pic of it with me should be viewable up above for size ref. for it as its smaller than the actual Whelps you kill.
edit: almost forgot, there are pleanty of LOST Whelps, but they don't drop it so don't waste your time fighting them
As of Cataclysm, the mobs who dropped these whelpling pets have all been changed.
Wow-Head member, chiqq, has posted a great and simple list on how to get this and many other whelplings for you pet collectors out there!
