WoW Forever PvP Guide: Honor, Ranks and Battlegrounds
Short answer: PvP in Forever is the Classic honor and rank system made seasonal. You climb Rank 1 to Rank 14 each season and start over the next. Honor gear costs about half again as much as at the start of the beta, the honor cap is 25,000, and Darkspear Islands is a new 15 versus 15 battleground from level 30.
Written for the World of Warcraft: Forever (Classic Plus) beta and checked on October 5, 2026. Every fact is labelled Blizzard, Reported (press and developer interviews) or Beta client (our reading of the client files). The beta ends October 21 and the game can change before launch. [Blizzard, September 17, 2026]
Quick answers

- Did honor costs change?
- Yes. Blizzard raised PvP gear and upgrade token honor costs by about 50% in beta. [Blizzard, October 1, 2026]
- What is the honor cap?
- 25,000, raised from 15,000 in the October 1 beta notes. [Blizzard, October 1, 2026]
- Which battlegrounds can I play?
- Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley and the new Darkspear Islands. More rows exist in the client but are not announced.
- Are there arenas?
- Two arena rows are in the beta client. Blizzard has not announced arenas.
Honor: what Blizzard changed in the beta
Blizzard: in the October 1 beta notes Blizzard raised the honor cost of PvP gear and PvP upgrade tokens by about 50%, and raised the honor cap from 15,000 to 25,000. [Blizzard, October 1, 2026]
What that means for you: rewards take more games, but you can bank more honor before you hit the cap. If you play a lot of PvP early, spend before you sit at 25,000, because honor you earn at the cap is wasted.
Blizzard: on the PvP ruleset you can only play one faction per account, and you cannot move a character to another ruleset later. Pick the PvP ruleset only if you want world PvP while you level. [Blizzard, September 12, 2026]
Not confirmed: the honor price of any single item, how much honor a battleground win gives, and whether honor decays. Blizzard has not published these and we do not print the figures that circulate.
Ranks 1 to 14, every season
Reported: Forever brings back the Classic rank system, Rank 1 to Rank 14, but as seasons: you start again from Rank 1 each season, and the rewards include cosmetics and PvP armor with stats. That comes from Tim Jones, a lead Classic designer, speaking to Kotaku. [Reported, September 17, 2026] Blizzard has not put the rules in a post yet.
How this differs from Classic: original Classic had no seasons. Rank points decayed every week, so reaching and holding a high rank meant playing every week for months. A season reset means everyone starts level each season, and a late starter is not years behind.
Beta client: all 28 Classic rank titles are in the beta client title table, so the titles themselves are ready:
| Rank | Alliance title | Horde title |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Private | Scout |
| 2 | Corporal | Grunt |
| 3 | Sergeant | Sergeant |
| 4 | Master Sergeant | Senior Sergeant |
| 5 | Sergeant Major | First Sergeant |
| 6 | Knight | Stone Guard |
| 7 | Knight-Lieutenant | Blood Guard |
| 8 | Knight-Captain | Legionnaire |
| 9 | Knight-Champion | Centurion |
| 10 | Lieutenant Commander | Champion |
| 11 | Commander | Lieutenant General |
| 12 | Marshal | General |
| 13 | Field Marshal | Warlord |
| 14 | Grand Marshal | High Warlord |
Beta client: the client also has a new hidden reputation row named "PvP Rank Points" that Classic Era does not have. Our reading: rank progress is tracked like a reputation bar. Blizzard has not explained it.
Not confirmed: the rank point total for Rank 14, weekly limits, decay, the season length and the item list per rank. Datamining sites and boosting sellers post numbers for all of these; none has a Blizzard source, so we leave them out.
Battlegrounds and arenas in Forever
Every battleground and arena row in the beta client build 1.60.1.70205 compared with Classic Era 1.15.9.69722. The levels and team sizes are the client's own values. Status says how sure we are that you will be able to play it on November 4.
| Battleground | Levels | Team size | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alterac Valley | 51 to 60 | 40 per side | Classic battleground Classic Era client and the Forever beta client |
| Warsong Gulch | 10 to 60 | 10 per side | Classic battleground Classic Era client and the Forever beta client |
| Arathi Basin | 20 to 60 | 15 per side | Classic battleground Classic Era client and the Forever beta client |
| Random Battleground | 10 to 60 | 10 per side | Queue in the client A queue row in the beta client; not announced |
| Random Epic Battleground | 10 to 60 | 10 per side | Queue in the client A queue row in the beta client; not announced |
| Battle for Blackrock | 50 to 60 | 15 per side | In the client, not announced Also in the Classic Era client; Blizzard has not announced it for Forever |
| Darkspear Islands | 30 to 60 | 15 per side | New, announced Reported from BlizzCon; levels and team size from the beta client |
| Battle for Gilneas | not set | 10 per side | In the beta client only Not announced by Blizzard |
Beta client: two arena rows exist. Neither is announced, there is no rated arena system in any Blizzard post, and Classic never had arenas, so do not plan around them yet.
| Arena | Levels | Team size | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyjal Crater | not set | 5 per side | In the beta client only Not announced by Blizzard |
| Mak'gora Arena | 1 to 60 | 5 per side | In the beta client only Not announced by Blizzard |
Beta client: the beta client also has a map with no queue row: Warsong Gulch (Winter). A map without a queue row cannot be joined through the battleground list, so treat it as work in progress or an event map until Blizzard says otherwise.
Maps, areas and the full client rows are on the Forever battlegrounds page.
Darkspear Islands, the new battleground
Reported: Darkspear Islands is the new battleground announced for launch. Press coverage of the BlizzCon presentation describes it as an Eye of the Storm style map: hold capture points and run a flag to a point your faction controls. [Reported, September 17, 2026] [Reported, September 13, 2026]
Beta client: the battleground row says levels 30 to 60, 15 players per side. So from level 30 it is a third choice next to Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin, while Alterac Valley still opens at 51.
The client's own description: "Off the coast of Kalimdor are the storm-torn islands of the Darkspear tribe. These islands are coveted by the trolls for their spiritual significance - but the encroaching Alliance seek to gain a foothold off the coast of Durotar."
Beta client: it comes with two new reputations, filed under Horde Forces and Alliance Forces next to the Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley factions:
- Darkspear Raiders (Horde): "Loyal to the troll nation, the Darkspear Raiders battle the Theramore Expeditionary Force for control of their ancestral Darkspear Islands."
- Theramore Expeditionary Force (Alliance): "Loyal partisans for their city, the Theramore Expeditionary Force battles the Darkspear Raiders for control of the so-called Darkspear Islands."
Rewards for these two reputations are not in any Blizzard post yet. See the Forever reputation guide for every faction.
Legacy perks for PvP players
Beta client: Legacy perks are bought with Legacy Points, which Blizzard says you earn from Legacy Challenges across your account. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026] Three perks in the beta client matter for PvP. Tooltip text as the client prints it:
- For Great Honor (up to 5 ranks): "Increases Honor Points gained by 10%."
- Diplomat (up to 5 ranks): "Increases your reputation gains by 10%."
- High Alert (up to 2 ranks): "Increases your ability to detect nearby targets with Stealth as if your level were increased by 2. Ineffective in Battlegrounds."
Our advice: For Great Honor is the only one that speeds up ranks directly. Diplomat speeds up every reputation, including the battleground factions. High Alert says "Ineffective in Battlegrounds", so it only helps in world PvP. Rank costs and the full trees are on the Legacy points page, and which perks to buy first is in the Legacy Points guide.
What we will update at launch
Forever launches on November 4, 2026 [Blizzard, September 12, 2026] and the beta ends on October 21. We will re-check these points against the live game and update this guide:
- Rank point totals, weekly limits and season length, once Blizzard posts the rules.
- Honor prices of the PvP sets and whether the 50% increase holds.
- Whether Battle for Gilneas, the arenas or the winter Warsong Gulch map go live.
- Darkspear Islands reputation rewards.
