WoW Forever Priest Guide

The Priest is the other class with a full Blizzard deep dive, and the beta client changes more Priest spells than any other class's. Every Priest now gets Fear Ward, Devouring Plague, Divine Spirit and Shadow Word: Death, each race has new racial spells, and the trees add Penance, Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending.

What changed for the Priest in Forever

Blizzard covered the Priest in its Class Deep Dive on September 30, 2026, and the beta development notes have changed it since. Each line links to its source.

  • Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are available to every Priest at level 20, whatever the race. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Divine Spirit is baseline at level 30. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Shadow Word: Death is baseline at level 32: instant Shadow damage on a 15 second cooldown, and you take 10% of your maximum health if the target survives. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Fade's threat reduction is doubled. Prayer of Healing also heals pets. Renew from several Priests can sit on the same target. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Penance is the Discipline 21-point talent: a 2 second channel on a 12 second cooldown that damages an enemy or heals an ally every second. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Soul Warding (Discipline 16) cuts Power Word: Shield's cooldown and cost. Renewed Hope and Divine Aegis build on it. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Binding Heal is the Holy 16-point talent: no cooldown, 1.5 second cast, heals you and your target. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Prayer of Mending is the Holy 31-point talent: 10 second cooldown, heals the next time the target takes damage, then jumps to a party or raid member within 20 yards, up to 5 heals. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Vampiric Embrace is the Shadow 16-point talent, now 30 seconds long on a 1 minute cooldown. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Shadowform lets you cast every non-healing spell, costs 50% less Mana for Shadow spells and doubles the critical strike damage bonus of Shadow spells; its flat Shadow damage bonus is smaller. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Removed talents: Unbreakable Will, Improved Power Word: Fortitude and Force of Will (Discipline), Improved Prayer of Healing and Lightwell (Holy), Improved Vampiric Embrace (Shadow). [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Renew can now crit, and Power Word: Shield can always overwrite an existing Power Word: Shield. [Blizzard blue post, September 24, 2026]
  • Devouring Plague can now crit. Shadow Word: Death no longer always gets the Early Demise bonus. Inner Focus no longer adds crit to periodic effects. Shadow Weaving can no longer fail to apply. [Blizzard blue post, October 1, 2026]

What the beta client shows

Our own read of the client tables. Blizzard has not posted these, so treat them as beta data that can change.

  • Elune's Grace is a single rank in the beta (five in Classic Era), which matches its redesign into a fixed defensive cooldown.
  • Classic Era lists Spirit of Redemption as a level 30 class record; in the beta client it is the Holy 21-point milestone talent.

Priest talent trees in the beta

The Priest has three trees and 51 talent points at level 60, one per level from 10. Each tree opens a new row every 5 points. The 1-point picks behind the 10, 15, 20 and 30 point gates are the milestones Blizzard talks about: the 11, 16, 21 and 31 point talents. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026] The text below is the client's own tooltip at full rank, from build 1.60.1.70205. Plan a build in the Priest talent calculator.

Discipline

The shield and mixed healing tree. Its milestones are Inner Focus, the new Soul Warding (a shorter, cheaper Power Word: Shield), the new Penance and Power Infusion. The tree has 18 talents worth 51 ranks; the first row is Power in Light, Wand Specialization, Twin Disciplines.

PointMilestone talentWhat it does (client text)
11Inner FocusWhen activated, reduces the Mana cost of your next spell by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if it is a non-periodic spell and capable of a critical effect.
16Soul WardingReduces the cooldown on your Power Word: Shield spell by 4 sec and reduces its mana cost by 15%.
21PenanceLaunches a volley of holy light at the target, causing 81 Holy damage to an enemy, or 184 healing to an ally, instantly and every 1 sec for 2 sec.
31Power InfusionInfuses the target with power, increasing their spell damage and healing done by 20% for 15 sec.

Holy

The throughput healing tree. Its milestones are Holy Nova, the new Binding Heal (heals you and your target), Spirit of Redemption and the new Prayer of Mending. The tree has 17 talents worth 48 ranks; the first row is Twilight Focus, Improved Renew, Holy Specialization.

PointMilestone talentWhat it does (client text)
11Holy NovaCauses an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing 27 Holy damage to all enemy targets and healing all party members within 10 yards for 51. These effects cause no threat.
16Binding HealHeals a friendly target and the caster for 247. Low threat.
21Spirit of RedemptionUpon death, the priest becomes the Spirit of Redemption for 15 sec. The Spirit of Redemption cannot move, attack, be attacked or targeted by any spells or effects. While in this form the priest can cast any healing spell free of cost.
31Prayer of MendingPlaces a spell on the target that heals them for the next time they take damage or receive non-periodic healing. When the heal occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a party or raid member within 20 yards.

Shadow

The damage tree. Its milestones are Mind Flay, Vampiric Embrace (moved to the 16-point spot), Silence and Shadowform. The tree has 18 talents worth 49 ranks; the first row is Shadow Focus, Blackout, Spirit Tap.

PointMilestone talentWhat it does (client text)
11Mind FlayAssault the target's mind with Shadow energy, causing 63 Shadow damage over 3 sec and slowing their movement speed by 50%.
16Vampiric EmbraceAfflicts your target with Shadow energy that causes all party members to be healed for 20% of any Shadow spell damage you deal for 30 sec.
21SilenceSilences the target, preventing them from casting spells for 5 sec and interrupting their spellcasts for 3 sec.
31ShadowformAssume Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 10%, reducing the Mana cost of all Shadow spells by 50%, increasing the critical strike damage bonus of your Shadow spells by 100%, and reducing Physical damage taken by you by 15%.

Changed between beta builds

We hold 5 snapshots of the Priest trees (70009, 70058, 70124, 70170, 70205). These are the differences, oldest first. Wording-only fixes are left out.

Only wording changed between these builds.

Changes for every class

These apply to every class, so they change how you play a Priest too.

  • Talents open at level 10 and use the same number of rows as Classic. The 1-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points in a tree are joined by a new 16-point milestone. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40. Talents, including Legacy talents, are changed at a class trainer in a major city. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Talents that used to hand out a key group buff are now baseline: Divine Spirit (Priest), Blessing of Kings (Paladin) and Improved Mark of the Wild (Druid). [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]
  • Spell, melee and ranged hit chance are one stat now, and so are spell, melee and ranged critical strike chance. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]
  • Bonus healing also gives one third as much bonus damage, so healers are not stuck when questing. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]
  • Weapon skill works as before, but items give less of it per item. Some items add a new stat that lowers the chance for your attacks to be dodged or parried, and caster weapons carry spell damage and healing. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]
  • Riding follows the Burning Crusade model: the cost moves into riding training and you get a mount when you learn the skill. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]
  • Each race now has two active and two passive racial abilities, tuned to give a similar amount of offensive power. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]

Priest spells by level, 1 to 30

Every Priest spell rank the beta client (1.60.1.70205) lists from level 1 to 30, the level cap of the beta. Read from the client's SkillLineAbility and SpellLevels tables on the class skill lines. Spells marked talent need the talent first; the level is the level the client requires. Training costs are set on the server and are not in the client. Spells marked with a race are racial: only that race learns them.

Races that can be a Priest

The beta client (1.60.1.70170) allows 6 races to be a Priest. "New" means the pair is not in the Classic Era client (1.15.9.69722). Blizzard can still switch a pair off on its servers. All pairs are on the races and classes page.

Racial notes from Blizzard

Every race has two active and two passive racials in Forever. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026] Blizzard has described these so far:

  • Gnome Priest: Confounding Flash at 10 (confuses up to 5 nearby enemies for 3 seconds, 2 minute cooldown) and Contingency Plan at 20 (a ward that shields and heals the target if it drops below 35% health, 5 minute cooldown). [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Dwarf Priest: Desperate Prayer is unchanged. Chastise at 20 damages and roots a Humanoid for 2 seconds on a 2 minute cooldown. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Human Priest: Divine Grace at 10 instantly heals an ally below 50% health and removes Weakened Soul (5 minute cooldown, not on yourself). Feedback is unchanged. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Night Elf Priest: Starshards at 10 hits much harder but now has a 30 second cooldown. Elune's Grace at 20 cuts the chance to be hit by melee and ranged attacks by 50% for 15 seconds or 3 misses. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Troll Priest: Hex of Weakness and Shadowguard are unchanged. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Undead Priest: Touch of Weakness is unchanged. Dark Sacrifice at 20 trades your health for Mana over time, scaling with Spirit. [Blizzard, September 30, 2026]
  • Dwarf: Stoneform focuses on removing and blocking Bleeds, Poisons and Diseases, and its defensive bonus now lowers physical damage taken. Find Treasure can stay on with other tracking. Mace Specialization raises critical strike chance with all spells and abilities while a mace is equipped. Big Game Hunter adds damage against Beasts. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]
  • Gnome: Eureka became a 10% discount on Mana, Rage or Energy abilities. [Blizzard blue post, September 24, 2026]
  • Gnome: Eureka no longer applies to periodic effects; channeled spells do not count as periodic. [Blizzard blue post, October 1, 2026]
  • Human: Will to Survive got a new visual, matching Dispel Magic. [Blizzard blue post, September 24, 2026]
  • Undead: Will of the Forsaken still removes Charm, Fear and Sleep but no longer grants immunity. Cannibalize restores Mana as well as Health. Touch of the Grave is a new damage racial. [Blizzard, September 13, 2026]
  • Undead: Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control and no longer fires from spells without a damage part. [Blizzard blue post, September 24, 2026]
  • Undead: Cannibalize cannot be used while you are immune to Physical damage. [Blizzard blue post, October 1, 2026]

Not known yet

We do not publish guesses. These wait for launch or for Blizzard to say more:

  • Stat priorities. Itemization is still moving in the beta, and Blizzard has posted no stat weights.
  • Best in slot lists. The two new raids in the client (Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps) have encounter names but no loot data yet.
  • Raid roles and group makeup at 60. The beta stops at level 30.
  • Training costs. Trainer prices are set on the server and are not in the client files.
  • How Discipline and Holy compare in raids once Penance and Prayer of Mending are tuned at 60.
