Tactics for 10m heroic:
Possible Setups: 2T2H or 2T3H. Enrage timer is not an issue once you figured out the mechanics.
I assume you're familiar with the normal mode encounter, so let's start with the differences:
- As usual, stuff hits harder and has more HP.
- On some Nests (2, 4, 8 and 12), a Nest Guardian will spawn on the current active nest. Nest Guardians have 3.3M HP and a cleave ability and therefore have to be tanked.
- Picking up a feather on one of the lower nests will only yield three charges of Daedalian Wings. However, you can stack up to 4 charges when picking up a new Feather with one charge left.
The nest activation order:
- First lower Nest activates.
- Second lower Nest activates. A guardian will spawn.
- Third lower Nest activates.
- First upper Nest activates. A guardian will spawn.
- Second upper Nest activates.
- Third upper Nest activates.
- The cycle repeats, but the third lower and first upper Nest (#9 and #10 in total) will activate simultaneously and the fourth guardian will spawn on the last upper Nest.
- The whole cycle starts at 1. again after the 12. Nest, but you should ignore that and nuke that bird down. No more guardians on the nests. As long as the boss has about 30% HP or lower now, you'll be fine.
Strategy:
You'll need two DDs on each nest, along with the occassional tank on nest 2, 4, 8 and 12 and a healer on all of the lower nests and all nests with a guardian (so 1,2,3,4,7,8,9 and 12 need a healer). There are many different approches, ours (with three healers) was: Group 1 (each group consisting of two DDs) does Nests 2,4, 8 and 10 while Group 2 does all the other nests. The remaining DD(s) will accompany when he needs new feathers and there's a free spot (so at nests 1, 3, 7 and 9), the tanks will make sure every time a nest with a guardian is about to become active to enable the tank with the feather from the 2nd/8th nest to fly to the 4th/12th nest. The healers took turns on the nests.
This way, you make the most out of your feathers (everybody grabs feathers everywhere) which will support you with a high raid uptime of Primal Nutriment which will again serve two purposes: More damage / healing and less green puddles, which cannot really be swept in heroic as the damage increasing debuff they give is here to stay.
This heroic is rather easy once people stop missing the platforms. Properly executed, you can beat it minutes before the 8min mark (enrage) even with three healers. When played with two healers, the encounter is a lot less forgiving, but still very doable - just don't get caught by Quills without a cooldown.
The easiest way to die seems to be at the boss / the nest guardians faster than the tanks. Don't do that, and don't miss your jumps - while the first and second lower Nest require late jumping and/or speed buffs, the third one almost requires you to not have a speed buff. Once you figured that out, it's all fun and games.
Oh, and don't underestimate the Quills in the final phase of the fight (after clearing out the 12 nests). They are nearly unsurvivable without heavy cooldowns.
