Red light - go further. Yellow light - quite close. Green light - very close. Max 4 digs at a place. Then u have to travel to new dig site.

At three fragments apiece with no keystones usually available on starter items, I advise early archaeologists to use the Survey skill-up levels alone until 100, you can then create a few items for 5 points apiece rather than wasting those 20 or so extra points on what'd you'd be doing anyway.
It is always three lots of artifacts per site.
