TheWoWDBAs of current build, 18764 (2014.08.31), the quest is quite buggy. As soon as you enter the room, you have to stand in front of him about 10 yards away from the crater to activate the item (70,47 is the co-ords).

Goblin Excavator: I just had to wear the red shirt...This is classic Star Trek dialogue and the red shirt comment is the "away team" member who always dies, it was always a no name character wearing a red shirt.
Use the item in the archway just before the crater (where you come from after the bridge), that area worked for me :)

Description
As an archaeologist, it's important to make great discoveries and contributions to the field. Why? Because that's how you make a name for yourself! Even that hack Harrison Jones has a somewhat reputable name. If he can do it, then you can too! The Highmaul are hiding something big in that cave of theirs and we need to get in there and take it! Take this teleportation beacon and make your way to the back of the cave. Once you find the relic, place the beacon and my team will take care of the rest!
