If your compass is a blue and white box (indicating that the file for the model is missing I believe), you have two options for how you can complete the quest.
If you don't care about the cutscene then right click the blue and white box to examine the "compass" then relog, this will complete the quest objective BUT the cutscene you are supposed to see is skipped entirely.
Alternatively, abandon the quest and exit the game completely. After relaunching the game and reaccepting the quest the compass appeared normally (and the cutscene played normally).
As usual your results may vary but this is what I experienced with this quest. So glad a pivotal story quest was broken so thoroughly >>.

Description
Before Anduin followed the Jailer through the gateway, he dropped something. I'm not sure what it was, but Jaina picked it up. Perhaps this is a sign that Anduin is still fighting back against the Jailer! We need to find out what this object was, and why the young king left it for us.
