Do not summon your demon, hunter pet, or water elemental - you will be dismounted.
As a hunter at a disadvantage without a pet, I found the following are helpful in many of the mount-in-training fights (in particular when you are trying to do the achievements Advanced Husbandry and The Stable Master, which increase damage taken by the mount). Possibly some *slight* overkill, but you can pick and choose which method you prefer:
- Using Dual Talent Specialization, choose [spell=155228] as the level 100 talent of one of your two specializations (both Marksmanship and Survival have this talent). [spell=155228] will add 30% to your damage without a pet present, which makes the fights go much faster, especially when you have to do 36 mount-in-training battles in a row for an achievement.
(Note: switching between specs is very quick if you have never done it before. It doesn't cost you anything, and it is always useful to have a second spec set up. There is no need to dismiss your hunter pet to make [spell=155228] activate - it activates when you get on the mount)- Create a Mend Pet macro to heal the mount-in-training:
/cast Mend Pet
Note: the Mend Pet spell in your spellbook won't work because it changes to Revive Pet when you summon the mount.- The level 45 hunter talent Exhilaration is also very useful (particularly in the case of [npc=87107]), as it heals the mount for 100% (verified).
