TheWoWDBSome things I have noticed with this quest and the others like it.
The quest items drop only on the day of the quest. This not a bug but rather part of the quest mechanic because the daily quest for Horde and Alliance are the same.This no longer applies as you can complete the quest on days it is not the daily if you already have it.Enemy players always drop the 5 quest items when killed in the combat zone of the quest.
Revenants (only visible to the controlling side of Wintergrasp) always drop up to 2 quest items if you are on the quest. The regular elementals will always drop 1 quest item if you are on the quest.
There are four quests like this one and rotate daily, like the daily dungeon quests (Alliance or Horde):
A Rare Herb or Healing with Roses No Revenants however Mature Lashers will drop 1 quest items and spawn like Revenants.
Fueling the Demolishers or Fueling the Demolishers Revenants always drop 2 quest items.
Bones and Arrows or Bones and Arrows Revenants always drop 2 quest items.
Warding the Warriors or Jinxing the Walls Revenants always drop 1 quest item.The upcoming changes to Wintergrasp (despawning of all elementals in the zone) also suggest these are meant to be done outside of the battle, that is, during the 2.5 hour break between battles.

Edit: I forgot to mention the quest items are multi-loot so it is best to do this as a group if there are multiple people to cut down on mob stealing from your own faction.
Another detail I have noticed is the number of items dropped by the revenants is not the static number of 2, rather it is dependent on the quest item being harvested. I have added what I have seen, from the Alliance perspective, to the above quests.

Description
{name}! About time you showed up. While we may have lost the last battle, we should prepare for the next! Travel to the Cauldron of Flames in southeastern Wintergrasp and retrieve several eternal embers. The embers are mixed in with coal to fuel the Demolisher and Siege Engines. Oh, and if you happen to see some of the Horde in the Cauldron, don't hesitate to slay them and take their embers. We must prevent them from holding the keep!
