TheWoWDBYou do not need the killing blow and you do not even have to be in a raid group. You can kill the Horde NPC's in WG to do this quest.

Seems that you need the killing blow to get credit (or somebody in a group to have a killing blow near you). Not the smartest idea with tons of people attacking the same target.
Thats why its a good idea to *immediately* join the general channel and ask to be invited to the raid for Wintergrasp.
