TheWoWDBUnless I'm missing something, or this quest is bugged, you literally have to kill and then mine 40 Leyworms. If that is the case, then this quest is extremely inefficient and I wouldn't recommend doing it as it takes way too much time even with the high respawn rates.

This has been hotfixed and now only requires 10 Leystone-Encrusted Spikes.
With open tagging, you can't mine a leyworm until all tagged players have got their loot. This means another player can tag your worms and prevent you from mining them by not taking their loot, or even worse, loot them only after you've given up and mine it all for themselves.
Considering you need 40 spikes and you only get one per kill, this makes this quest almost impossible to complete on a busy day.
