Occasionally while working towards finishing the common Pandaren artifacts, you actually end up completing a 'Pristine' version of the artifact instead. Hand in the subsequent quest at the Seat of Knowledge in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms (there is nothing else that needs to be done) and you'll receive one Pandaren Pottery Shard and 3x [item=87399] (which is an archaeological currency for MoP).
The location 'The Seat of Knowledge' for all hand-ins to [npc=61962] is above the [zone=6182] in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and can only be accessed with flying.
Getting ALL Pandaren and Mogu 'Pristine' artifacts will also earn you the achievement The Seat of Knowledge.
It's also worth noting that while you can accept these 'Pristine' quests at level 85 (as soon as you get the quest item), you physically cannot reach the area you need to hand in at until you're 90 or unless you get a level 90 friend with a two-person flying mount to taxi you up there. You'll already know this, if you've managed to leg it into the zone (like me) and stood mere inches away from the hand in, with no ability to actually get to it. Lock summons can also do the trick here (this is also the part where we lament the good old days of mass summoning). Otherwise, be patient and wait till you're big and bad enough to do it yourself!
The following is a list of all possible 'Pristine' Pandaren artifacts:
- [item=79903] can instead become [item=89183] which gives you Pristine Apothecary Tins
- [item=79901] can instead become [item=89181] which gives you Pristine Carved Bronze Mirror
- [item=79900] can instead become [item=89180] which gives you Pristine Empty Keg
- [item=79897] can instead become [item=85558] which gives you Pristine Game Board
- [item=79902] can instead become [item=89182] which gives you Pristine Gold-Inlaid Figurine
- [item=79896] can instead become [item=85557] which gives you Pristine Pandaren Tea Set
- [item=79904] can instead become [item=89184] which gives you Pristine Pearl of Yu'lon
- [item=79905] can instead become [item=89185] which gives you Pristine Standard of Niuzao
- [item=79898] can instead become [item=89178] which gives you Pristine Twin Stein Set

It's really frustrating to successfully stealth alive through all Pandaria at level 85 up to the gates of Mogushan Palace just to find out they're locked. It's ironic to be a rogue and can't figure out how to open those damn doors! :P
Since there is a Quest for each pristine artifact, you can use a macro command to check if you've already completed each quest.
For the [item=85558] / Pristine Game Board:
/run print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(31796))
A result of 1 means that you have done it already, and "nil" means you haven't completed it yet.Or you can go visit The Seat of Knowledge in The Vale of Eternal Blossoms, and stroll around the museum exhibit to view all your completed pristine artifacts.
Or (lazy bones) open your Achievements panel and view your progress on The Seat of Knowledge.

This artifact has been restored to a remarkably excellent condition. Perhaps you will put it on display at the Seat of Knowledge, so that lorewalkers and archaeologists can study it.
