This quest name may be a reference to the Highlander movies & TV series. "The Quickening" is the process which makes the characters in Highlander immortal. Once immortal, they can only be killed by beheading. If beheaded, the victor absorbs all of the vanquished immortal's energy, memories, & power.
This seems to coincide with the quest text above.

Description
I've learned more in my short time here than in decades of studies. The ancients here are being exposed to incredible levels of arcane energy. It's literally transforming them into something... I'm confident that there's a final stage in their metamorphosis. Find me some evidence of their final state.

In order to reestablish his dominance over magic, the blue Dragon Aspect, Malygos, has launched a ruthless campaign to sever the link between mortals and the arcane energies coursing through Azeroth. To this end, his blue dragonflight is redirecting the ley lines of the world to the Nexus, Malygos' towering lair.
