A newly added Nightfallen World Quest, which has you hunt down the very mobs we have all been avoiding - the sycophant packs.

At first glance it is incredibly annoying, since multiple people are hunting for those few packs (sure seemed to be more of them before this quest lol), not to mention the summoned withered stay there to spawn kill them too. On my (low population) server most of the zone was filled with withered.

However, there is a golden spot with about 15 quick spawning sycophants: the rise at 54,64 with the inquisitor surrounded by 3 packs. Found it out at the end of course.

Ok, I don't get this quest at all. Are you supposed to kill the sycophants or are the withered supposed to do it? The withered don't even come close, but if I try I get killed. What's the whole purpose of the withered if they don't kill them?

Try explaining your quests a bit more Blizzard!

Edit: Ok I did this quest, if you can skip it I'd suggest you do that. If not here are some pointers:

First, you get a spell that lets you target an area for withered to be ported in. This spell has a 45 sec cd. the point of the quest is to kill Sycophants (mobs labeled as such). You can cast the spell while disguised.

  • You don't need the withered. You can just kill the Sycophants yourself

  • The withered do actually do some damage and can kill non-elite Sycophant's themselves. However you may not get credit so best to help them dps down

  • The withered will get owned quickly by Elites so try and drop them where there are Sycophants with no elites around (not easy to find). They seem to aggro mobs from pretty far away and also can run off and attack and aggro other groups

  • The best strategy, if you don't want to die a lot, is to find a room inside a building with Sycophants and no elites and kill them and just wait for them to respawn.

  • When the withered aggro observer type mobs (ones that can see through your disguise) they no longer dispell your disguise so that can be used to your advantage.

I died a lot, probably 4 or 5 times doing this quest. I'm not the best geared (about 820 ww monk), but I don't think gear would have mattered a lot as you aggro from pretty far away.

Don't bother using the orbs, they're more trouble than they're worth.
Found an excellent building at 57, 64 with 2 sycophants bottom floor and one sleeping in top floor. Fairly quick respawn and nothing to aggro apart from them, didn't die once.
EDIT: Checked again after the comment below, the building at 57 64 definitely has the right mobs in it, just completed the quest again using it with zero deaths. The mobs are Loyalist Sycophants, their names appear above them in yellow if you're on the WQ.
