I died a few times before I figured out an easy way to kill this guy. Wait till the devilsaur pats over to the cave and start killing him near the guards...bam...guards help you kill him and your golden. Avoid different spells and you should be ok.

I concur. I happened to engage this fellow near the cave. After taking a very
damaging hit I ran into the cave to heal up. Next thing I know he goes down.
I can only conclude that the guards fighting at the entrance to the cave brought
him down.
