When fighting the felcinders, fight them next to the Shaman NPCs that you see around the edge of the area with their cleansing totems. The Shaman NPCs have a blue swirl effect around them. Fighting the felcinders near the shamans will prevent them from applying the flame effect that burns you to death.
Less important: This quest name is a reference to the Billy Joel song We didn't start the fire.
