I got yelled at in a 5-man PUG because I BOPed the druid healer. The healer was very low on HP, and as a tank, I BOP healers when I think they're about to die. The druid said never BOP a druid healer. I don't understand why?

They probably didn't know what it did. As far as I'm aware, no healing abilities are disabled when HoP is used and it'll cause any melee mobs to deaggro. Perhaps shapeshift counts as a physical ability and/or they wanted to go to bear form to stun? At any rate, I'd appreciate it in any similar scenario.

Wrong. This is only 10 seconds and casting this triggers a global cool down which the hearthstone is on. Meaning even if you were haste capped there would still be 1 whole second where you are not protected. The old pally bubble was 12 seconds.

I agree with Jynxcat and gamerunknown. I have a paladin and a priest. I have used this skill 2-3 times on healers and thought it was a bad idea because they froze up. But when I moved over to my priest and jumped into a Warsong Gulch map I discovered that I can use my heals through the shield and I can NOT be stunned/ambushed by rogues while keeping the fc alive for the run back to base. So, Asherkobin, keep up your tactic, it is legit and appreciated.

For anyone new to paladins in pvp, this macro is a lifesaver vs melee in arena.
/cast [@arenapartnerNAME] hand of protection
I know it seems simple and not worthy of a comment, but not many paladins actually have it. You only need one macro for each member of your team. If they are a melee/hunter, make sure not to use it on them if they are bursting or going for a kill unless they 100% WILL die unless it is put on them. Cheers!

Useful for Heroic Staghelm to keep DPS from taking Searing Seeds. This causes their concentration buff to fade when the seed explodes, and reset their 100% DPS buff.

Cast it while running in and tell them to NOT click it off until the tornados stunning the raid are gone, or else the cats will rock their faces.

This spell is obviously most useful on casters who are being focused by melee (in particular Rogues and Warriors), who can rapidly take them down using their CC / stun CD's. Combined with Clemency, it makes for a powerful ability against a melee duo in PVP.

As Retribution, timed with appropriately stacked Word of Glory & Selfless Healer, it is a great way to improve survivability as a "double-dps" team in 2v2 Arena.

Take the time to become proficient utilising all the Hand spells - they really are one of the cornerstones of the Paladin!

I've done this before during a heroic, but it was on accident. I made the mistake of keeping Divine Protection right next to Hand of Protection for PvP purposes. I was getting prepped to do a Hand of Sacrifice/Divine Protection combo to give the tank some extra protection during an intense boss fight, but after I cast HoS (with our tank still selected), I then pressed Hand of Protection. I felt like quite the moron when the boss proceeded to beat the living crap out of our DPS while our tank frantically ran around trying to figure out what was happening. The tank manage to click out of it, but

On of my tanks had me convinced BoP no longer dropped threat anymore, so far that I used it in LFR on Huntsman to drop the first beast's bleed. It didn't go so well as he dropped some poor unsuspecting mage DPS. So yes, I'll be sure to pass along these nice macros to our tank, so that no mages suffer anymore

Greatly improve the reliability of Blessing of Protection when casting as a tank! I have come up with the following macro for you:
#showtooltip
/cast [help,nodead] Blessing of Protection

Explanation: Frequently, players can accidentally cast Blessing of Protection on themselves when incorrectly targeting an enemy, or when the targeted low-health teammate suddenly dies. This macro will simply do nothing in such cases, even if you have set self-cast as true. To cast Blessing of Protection on yourself, you have to target yourself first.

We can also apply the same conditionals, if we want to combine Blessing of Protection with Divine Shield and, say, a toy like [item=165669]:
#showtooltip
/castsequence [nomod,group,combat] Divine Shield; [nomod] reset=10 Divine Shield,Lunar Elder's Hearthstone; [mod:shift] Lunar Elder's Hearthstone; [mod:alt,help,nodead] Blessing of Protection
/cancelaura [btn:2] Divine Shield

  • Press the macro (when not both in a group and in combat): Cast Divine Shield first, and use the [item=165669] second. (The Righteous Retreat effect will make your hearth twice as fast!)

  • Press the macro (when in a group and in combat): Cast Divine Shield. (This is to avoid accidental Righteous Retreats in the middle of M+/raid combat.)

  • While holding Shift, press the macro: Use the [item=165669].

  • While holding Alt, press the macro: Cast Blessing of Protection on your target, but only if your target is alive and friendly.

  • Click the macro with mouse right button: Instantly cancel the Divine Shield buff.

For any pally that doesn't realize it, this counts as a Blessing and will remove your current one on your target. Rebuff the target after.

(Although not exactly earth-shaking news, because this will only affect raiding pallies BoPing people who aggro raid bosses, and chances are, by the time you hit 70, you'll know.)
