in true Red dragon fashion, It can be used to save life, or burn it to cinders. When talented to split to several targets, it will consider allies or enemies as nearby, and react accordingly. The most useful and interesting aspect of it is that it is responsible for the essence burst ability, meaning it's kinda sorta but not exactly a builder.

Both specs can use this spell to benefit from Essence Bursts, giving them a free cast of their most expensive essence spenders like Disintegrate or Emerald Blossom. It can be spam-cast on a friendly before combat to build up Essence Burst charges too. It also gets a huge bonus from [[spell=369939]] allowing it to cleave. PvPers and Healers can also occasionally use this spell to deal bursts of damage thanks to [spell=372469], which lets them deal store up some spell strength as they heal people.

Unfortunately, one of the main disadvantages of Living Flame is that it has got a fairly long cast time for fairly low effect. This isn't a problem for DPS - most people can even take Engulfing Flames for an even longer cast time just to make each cast more efficient - but particularly for healing spells, that makes it fairly weak. DPSers can use [spell=360995] or a health potion to top themselves off, and should probably consider doing that first, way before using this.

Compared to Flash Heal, Living Flame is worse in all aspects but range. Even with the longer casts which tend to be weaker, like the unbuffed version of [spell=2060] as an example, the healing version of living flame dealing about 200% spellpower makes it about 11% weaker (28% less healing power, in only 20% less the time. Even compared to [spell=82326] for a more similar comparison of filler used by burst-style healers, it's 4% less. Some people have advocated using Living Flame with [spell=376179], which does add something like 8k healing to the cast at around 200k HP, but even then it seems to only barely just catch up to other spec's spammable filler heals.

I personally just don't really see it working as a healing spell, and with the logs I've seen and the way I play it: preservation evokers just don't really have a great filler healing spell, they mostly just have to keep juggling their HoTs and other combos so they don't need to heal with this, as rarely as possible.

TLDR: just use this as a damage spell, only heal with Living Flame if you really have no other options.
