I attacked this creature as lvl99 and i got more than i had bargained for.
When i reached 20%hp he was still at 70% so i ran as fast as my little feet could carry me.Eventually i ended up in the nearby settlement of Yrel's watch, where the guards aided me.
All i could do was run big circles around him because of my low health while the guards chipped away at him.He does a charge which you can only avoid by sidestepping the very last moment.
It took a good 5 minutes of running, but in the end i got him.
Epic fight!

Not Direhoof though, that talbuk is one of the most aggresively dangerous beasts I've ever encountered... and one of the most magnificent talbuk I've ever seen! If you encounter Direhoof while adventuring and live to tell the tale, return to me with the beast's hide and I'll see that you're rewarded!
