Not sure if this will help anyone else, but it would have saved me some trouble:
The wolves always take the same path. There is a spot where the wolf leaps over a bent tree. I kept missing and falling off the edges, ending the quest. You can simply go around the tree, it's short enough distance not to break the lasso.
For anyone wondering how to get up there. The path is at 58.20:64.86. Go up the ramp, jump across where the tree is, jump again to the next area straight ahead, and then run up the small slope in the rock formation and you'll see all the wolves there.
Note: There is a ramp to your left once you get there, if you go up it, you'll find Scout Pohkar, another one of Draenor's rares.
Prepare to jump a lot while taming this wolf. You can and most likely will fall into the canyon below, then you may have to fight your way through lvl 99 mobs to get out.

This next one will test you to your very limits, commander. The wolf is the most savage beast in all of Draenor. The wolves of Nagrand, mounts of the fabled Warsong clan, can rend a man to bits in seconds. They're also faster and more agile than anything you've seen yet. Here's your lasso. Good luck, and don't get yourself killed!
