People like to get started, on all kinds of things - in game and in life, without reading / listening to instructions.
Do not leave, to begin the quest, without speaking with Pedgi. Right-click him and ask to borrow his sunglasses.

Don't be that person, who wants to get on with the quest, charges outside and can't work out why there's nothing to banish.
You might even see items to banish in the same room.
They're ethereal, pale, glowing images of various things that don't seem to belong where you see them. A bush, growing from the floor, for example.

I was 50% done, before I left the inn.
You'll probably be able to see a few, just looking down, from the platform outside the inn.
If you can't, you'll soon see yellow dots all over your minimap. Head to the various objects and banish them.

You might get swarmed by Time Flies, after banishing something.
You can drop aggro, with something like Feign Death, or kill them.
Return to the inn and hand the quest in, to Melly Teletone.
