Finding the Source

Finding the Source is a quest for level 15-30 in Un'Goro Crater. It is step 3 of 29 in the Un'Goro Crater storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Un'Goro Crater at 55.4, 62.5. It rewards 4,100 experience and money.

Description

I created a thermometer to take readings of the temperatures at the volcano, and I'd like to find the hottest lava flows. It gives the measurements in degrees Kraklenheit!

Here, take it, and take readings of the temperatures at the ridge whenever you see a hot spot!

Hot spots usually take the form of a glowing, rocky pillar jutting out of the ground. You'll find them around the base of Fire Plume Ridge... one trip around the perimeter will likely suffice.

Most veteran players will simply run to the top of the mountain by the cave mouth where the hottest spot always used to be. It has however been moved, and is now on the ground on the north-side of the mountain-face.

If like me you find yourself by default running to the 'old' pre-cata location, simply run north down the mountain and its waiting there for you like a good quest objective. Clearly expecting players to run up a hill to complete a quest was too difficult :)

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Volcanic ActivityUn'Goro Crater · Level 15-30

Welcome. I'm Williden Marshal, and my sister and I run this expedition of explorers and scientists. You have a moment? I don't like the look of those elementals on that volcano, <class>. We have too much equipment, too many notes...

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • BlazerunnerUn'Goro Crater · Level 15-30

I'm still a bit concerned about these fire elementals, <name>. One last request: head to the top of Fire Plume Ridge, and kill the one they call Blazerunner. He's the biggest and strongest of all the fire elementals in the crater. With him gone, I'll be able to sleep much better.
