Something exactly you need to know.
Make any shape that produces five or more beams.
Run ACROSS five beams (not along them) quickly. It's done.
With eacn beam you ran across, you get a buff which lasts only 2 seconds.
You need to collect all these five buffs before they fade and that will complete the quest objective.
It took me an hour before I figure out what it means, since no one here mention that.

Gauging the Resonant Frequency
A World of Warcraft quest in Blade's Edge Mountains. Facts and objectives from the current retail game data.

To do this quest you need to be in Singing Ridge, in the vicinity of 60, 76. Clear a large area (5-6 mobs worth) and then start dropping scanners. Every time you drop a scanner there's a chance a Wyrm from Beyond (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=21796) will spawn. Not too hard to solo, but keep an eye out.
You have to work fairly quickly, the scanners are on a short timeout. The scanners have some restrictions on where they can be placed, but it's not simply distance; I've put two within five yeards of each other Look to your buffs for plus-sign shaped buffs showing you the scanners in range, and a minus-sign shaped debuff if you can't drop a scanner where you're staying.
The quest is easy. Clear out an area, and lay five scanners in a star formation. The overlap point will be the centre of the star.

What to do
Description
Take these scanners to the Singing Ridge. By dropping them in a pattern on the ground, you will create overlapping fields that will read the amplitude of the crystals. Stand amidst them in such a way that you're in five oscillation fields and I'll have the information that I need! Your scanners will even work with those that others drop. Oh, and it's likely that a rift will be formed! I have no idea what, if anything, will come out of it, but be prepared for the worst.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

The damned rock flayers are keeping me from my research down in the Singing Ridge! By digging at the crystals there, with every scratch they are ruining my chances of studying the harmonics of the singing crystals. You look like someone who can help me deal with this problem.
