TheWoWDBIf you're struggling to get the Gold medal, give a try to Lightning Rush instead of Whirling Surge. This race is perfect for generating Static Charges and you can use the boost during the steep descent in the second half of the race. Just make sure you're aiming correctly before using it, as maneuverability is limited. Lightning Rush does not use Vigor!
To switch between Lightning Rush and Whirling Surge, go to Warband Collections → Mounts → Skyriding → Skills and Unlocks.

I signed back into my WoWhead account for the first time in years to upvote your comment. Switching from Whirling Surge to Lightning Rush trivialized this race, along with every other one I'd been struggling with for the Khaz Algar Completionist achievement.
