For this quest you are looking for FRIENDLY mobs with the name "Infused Beetle". You pick up the purple shards and throw them at the friendly beetles. It doesn't look like they respawn, so if you are having trouble finding them use /target Infused Beetle and set your options to show target in minimap, or alternatively set a target marker on it and look for the marker.
Yes totally silly and unwieldy targeting quest, and FYI there are 3 beetles on the back of the dragon sitting to the right of the doorway to Caldera of the Menders , crystal location 36.94 31.14

Description
Beetles are swarming our support creche! Some of them are now eating pieces of broken Infusers, and that's making them stronger. We keep trying to smush them, but they won't stay smushed. Now it's harder to get rid of them, but we have a plan. We've discovered that hitting them with pieces of broken Infusers can weaken them again! Do you mind helping us clear out these Infused Beetles?
