The large shards scattered around the area give about 10-15 crystals each while mobs drop 3-5 crystals each, so go for the shards first and foremost.
However, you eventually do have to kill mobs. I didn't realize they also dropped crystals at first and spent 10 minutes running around looking for more shards. Duh!
Click on the portal in front of the quest giver. go to all the marks on your map and click on the items.
If she says "The coast is clear, try again". you have to click on the purple and black portal thing again @ /way 37.07, 52.37.
Stay out of the large circle around the void effusions (with the blue circles above their heads) and do not fight anything if you do not have to. Otherwise, you will be exposed. Then it's lather, rinse and repeat, and try again.
That is every comment on this page.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Flight points closest to the quest’s first objective area marker on Eredath:
Straight-line distances in yards between the quest’s own map markers (QuestPOI) and the client’s flight-point positions (TaxiNodes); flight paths and terrain are not modelled.
First seen in build 12.0.7.68887 (Midnight patch 12.0.7, the oldest build in our datamine).
Steps, storylines and map placement from the client’s QuestLine, prerequisite and QuestPOI data; neighbouring quest text is Blizzard’s own (quest API), shortened to its opening sentences.
