If you interact with any real-world objects (i.e. Void Tinged Chest or Empyrium Deposit), you phase out. Just click the void portal to phase back in. In other words, don't touch anything but the quest objects/NPC's and you'll be fine.

I just had a strange bug on my druid alt. I got stuck on last part where i had to Meet Alleria and Locus-Walker. But for some reason i couldn't complete on turn in quest. I tried to relog and abandon the quest but nothing worked. So i went back to the portal and went into shadow realm again. Went back the same way to the Alleria and Locus-Walker and got progress toward last part of the quest.
TLDR - if you die, or click the wrong thing, you get kicked out of the "void realm" and cannot interact with anything anymore, but it doesn't tell you that :( You need to backtrack to /way 37 52.5 Void Portal and click it again and start again.
This is a terrible quest - click the wrong thing, or die, or basically ANYTHING other than 100% 360 degree no-scope this - and you lose the invisible buff, cannot interact, and have to run back to the void portal to click it again - just terrible design.
if i die, and re spawn, at least either keep me in the void realm, or give me a void portal where i re spawn - dont make me backtrack for it, as well as doing a terrible job of telling me I have to do that.

What to do
Description
That was Locus-Walker. He taught me all that I know about the Void, and he still has more to teach me. If he is here, then the ethereals' presence only intrigues me further. I had thought him the only one of his kind, but now that I have seen another tangling with the Void... Come, we must play his game if we want to learn what he knows. He appears to have gone toward the Umbra Hollows to the north.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Arkhaan's Peril
Whatever called to him, it cannot have good intentions. We need to go in after him. Before we step through this portal, <name>... ensure you are prepared to fight. The Void's influence is rarely peaceful.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Sources of Darkness
I think I understand what he was trying to show us, <name>. I feel a surge of power building ahead. They must be cultivating the Void, calling it here. We need to stop them before they plunge this entire city into shadow. Find the source and cut it off by any means necessary.
