TheWoWDBYou can also go to Blademoon Bloom in Shadowmoon Valley and get a 10 minute water walking buff that persists through damage from the small white flowers that dot the shoreline.
I had no trouble flying to Talador and taming the Riverbeast before the buff ran out.

To clarify, picking up [spell=155877] from around 53,63 in Shadowmoon Valley grants the buff [spell=153592] which gives waterwalking for 10 minutes
I absolutely cannot imagine doing this without [item=81354].
He mostly goes over water that you would definitely be swimming in and he doesn't slow down to allow time for that either.
Regardless - some form of water walking or a mount is a must!

I wasn't sure about this next beast, but it turns out that they've got a key strategic purpose. The riverbeast is quite at home in the water! You'll find the best ones around in Talador, around about Duskfall Island. Look for the huge, floating lumps out in the water. Try not to get wet!
