Only Mawsworn drop [item=188522]s. So skip the Annelid worms and other automa. The Mawsworn drop rate was 100% whether the mob had 44K health or 144K health.
The loot window will show an icon with a symbol. The icon won't go into your inventory, but the count will show on screen in the Objectives section.
The non-elite Plunderers should be your target. Much easier to kill that most of the others (Elites).
Go to the designated quest area and just kill random mobs. Occansionally the needed quest item will drop.

Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.
