TheWoWDBThe tree (at least for the alliance version of the quest) is in Shadowmoon Valley at 30.51, 30.67.
When I first read the quest I got the impression the tree was going to be inside the garrison, near the lumber mill, which it is not.

Unlike cutting normal trees, you have to actually stay somewhat close to the tree in order to receive credit for the timber sample. Normally with trees, you can cut it and run away as the animation plays and you'll still be given the timber. But for this quest, I cut the tree and ran back to the garrison and did not get credit. This quest has a longer special animation since it's the first time you see it (at least on that character), and you have to wait for it to play out.
This quest is very close to the garrison. Garrison, as in Hell. Which is bad. 20s delay.
I've been coming back to try to do this quest throughout the day and it's been the same result every time. I click on the tree. The "jack" shows up in his little copter and just stays up there for a while, then he just drops down and dies. No rush to do this, but i want to be able to log medium trees!

Now maybe you don't know what a commandojack is, so let me explain: they're like lumberjacks, only highly trained in the art of killing. Mostly they're out of work mercenaries and assassins. What this means is that we can now cut medium sized timber - but first we need to give these commandojacks a test run. There's a suitable tree nearby. Good luck!
