Gaurenteed way to win (assuming no disconects or unforseen glitches)
First off, forget the combo training you did, the comp is often faster cause of ping. Its very unreliable and often just gets you killed. If you try for it, the computer will just do it to you and you will be in a bad way
Start the fight with 3 stacks of Defense
Melee him till he moves to range
Charge his rear
melee till he moves to range again
Repete till victoryOnly refresh defense while in melee range, as it shares a cooldown with your ranged attacks, but not your melee. If its on CD when he moves to range, you will be combod and very likely lose

Lost? Can't complete the quest? Can't mount the Quel'dorei Steed or Sunreaver Hawkstrider?
You can now mount your race specific mount and are supposed to use this mount to complete this quest.

Tauren - Stabled Thunder Bluff Kodo
It is my personal opinion that this quest sucks.
From my observations, the computer gets a double stack of defense from every application and can charge from a much shorter range than you can.
Also, I seem to spend more time trying to get the damn thing in front of me rather than doing any actual damage cause the vehicle mount turns like a bloated cow rather than the spritely turn radius of the mounts that we're used to.

Description
The grand melee is the most important of the tournament's competitions. We know everyone's looking forward to seeing us in the competition. To that end, we've been honing our skills against the valiants representing the other Alliance capitals. I suggest you do the same. Go to the stables outside the pavilion, equip your lance, mount the stabled turbostrider, and challenge the valiants. They wait in the Alliance Valiants' Ring just outside our tent.
