To complete this quest, turn your camera angle 90 degrees so that you are looking to the right (toward the mountains) and zoom out. You will then clearly see the vents as you fly past them and easily be able to target them.
This could also be a reference to the movie Event Horizon. Although the quest description doesn't really indicate that at all, the first quest in this pre-Cataclysm event is likely a reference to a movie title as well.

Description
We thought that we could wait for the radiation to subside around Gnomeregan, but it doesn't appear to be getting better. If we want to take back our city, we need to make sure it's safe for our troops to enter. Take these Radiageigatrons, hop in 'Thunderflash' here, and toss them at the ventilation shafts outside of Gnomeregan. They'll report the radiation levels directly to me.
