Requires 800 leatherworking to craft and learn but can be used whit no leatherworking skill afterwards by all your characters.
Great Northern Elderhorn can be obtained after completing Leatherworking Mounting Made Easy quest. Reward is a [spell=195314].

Objective of this quest is to capture [npc=105337]. It's not an easy quest, the reward is Great Northern Elderhorn after all. You'll put [npc=105337] on a leash from which he'll try to break out running around Stormheim, he'll jump down cliffs, try to fool you, run into packs of wildlife and Vrykuls so you have to be prepared! You have to be mounted to do this quest, if you dismount you'll lose the leash. If your leash breaks you don't start from the beginning, there are check points that save your progress.Before you start this quest you need to have these two things:
1. [item=133577] - buy it on AH or make it yourself, recipe [item=133828] is a reward for Morale Booster quest in Azsuna. You need this food because there will be an area with the waterfall where [npc=105337] will jump down and you'll take fall damage. You can make it without food but it'll be much harder.
2. Stonehide Leather Barding - buy or craft, the recipe [item=137952] is a reward for doing [skill=165] quest Dazed of the Past. As i said he'll run into packs of wildlife so the mobs will daze you if you don't have Stonehide Leather Barding. You can do it without barding but it'll take you few attempts because you'll have to kill mobs and make an attempt before they respawn.I've made a video of this quest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAqvQM_Nukk so you can just watch it if you don't like to read a lot of text.
So let's break it down, Elderhorn is at 62.5, 23.8 Storm's Peak. Easy run, just follow him, no traps in this area, he'll run from Strom's Peak to Nastrondir.
First trap is in Nastrondir 43.0, 37.0 he'll jump between two narrow rocks, don't jump after him just run around it.
Then follow him to the next hard area - the waterfalls 31.6, 46.5. Here you'll have to jump down in a way that don't break the leash, Elderhorn will jump down 4 times. His first and second jump you have to jump with him facing the mountain to avoid jumping too far. Third jump - don't stagger and jump with him. On his fourth jump he'll do a high leap so don't follow him right away, jump when he starts to fall down. I did it with [item=133577], without it you'll have to jump from higher rock to lower or you'll die from fall damage.
Shortly after the waterfall at 39.7, 47.3 he'll start to jump on rocks, you don't have to follow him just stick to the road.
When you reach the bridge at 42.8, 58.6 you have to run on the bridge, he'll try to fool you by running close to the bridge and then jumping on it.
After the bridge he'll run into packs of wildlife, so if you have Stonehide Leather Barding you're safe, if you don't then after they daze you just clear the packs and try again before they respawn.
Next tricky area starts from Cullen's Post he'll do a series of jumps down the mountain to the river, jump after him. When you reach the path up the mountain at 47.3, 61.2 he'll try to fool you and run around it but then he'll jump on the rock breaking the leash so you have to go up the mountain. When you're near the top you have to take the right side at 48.3, 59.5 near the fire torch. Because he'll jump again and break the leash if you don't take the right side to climb.
Next he'll follow into Amberfall Mesa where he'll try to lose you in the trees at 52.6, 57.2, position your camera in a way that you don't lose him in the trees. At 51.0, 51.1 he'll run into a bull so again if you don't have Stonehide Leather Barding, you may break the leash.
When you reach the path down to Hellmouth Shallows he'll make 2 jumps down at 52.7, 49.5. He will not wait so don't stagger and jump straight with him.
In Hellmouth Shallows don't run into mist clouds they'll slow you down.
The end of the path is at 55.4, 46.7. He'll jump on the big rock, you can't jump there so don't panic just jump on the smaller one and stand there.For TomTom users, important points in this quest:
