TheWoWDBI had problems finding any basilisks in the main spot and moved on. (I assume because of the bordering legion invasions on Thunder Totem.)
However, I did chance upon the Hide quest item being skinned from [npc=99598] and got all 5 this way.Only worth doing so if you're stuck (or watching TV), as this mob has a roughly 5min respawn!

you can still do this during the invasion, as you can see above mobs also spawn at /way 54,4 42,4 in candle rock cave
Collect 5 [item=130100] from basilisks. You can find them in Snowblind Mesa, get there from Thunder Totem's second floor following the road in the east corner of the map. There are a lot of them near the bridge and Neltharion's lair entrance.

Description
As we make stronger armor, the creatures we battle adapt and learn to defeat us. We in turn create better armor, and they in turn learn to defeat it yet again. For centuries, my people have battled the basilisks of the mesas below. They have adapted to us as thoroughly as we have to them. Go, kill these basilisks and take from them their hides. Return them to me so I may show you how they have evolved.
