An Unnatural Drought

An Unnatural Drought is an Alliance-only quest for level 10-30 in Zangarmarsh. It is step 23 of 64 in the Zangarmarsh storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Zangarmarsh at 68.3, 50.1. It rewards 4 reward items, 1 reputation reward, 4,100 experience and money. Completing it counts toward 1 achievement.

Description

The soil sample you brought me is nearly devoid of moisture, <name>. If the soil itself is losing moisture, then the creatures that live in the Dead Mire must be suffering terribly.

I've seen what happens when the region's fungal giants begin to wither and die. The pain drives them mad, causing them to attack anything in their path.

These creatures have no idea what's happening to them. They're beyond our ability to save, so the best we can do is to end their suffering.

Enter Dead Mire in the northeast part of Zangermarsh and you are there. The Withering Giants are all along the edge. :D
If you are currently on the Gathering the Reagents quest; you can go to 77,45 in Dead Mire and kill Sporewing each time he spawns for a Spore Bat Eye. I had gotten a 75% droprate. Doubletasking is fun.

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • The Dead MireZangarmarsh · Level 10-30

I have lived among the anchorites of Telredor for some time, <name>, and in that time I've come to know the marsh quite well. Recently, I've started to notice a disturbing change in the land to the northeast. Virtually all life there has begun to wither and die, seemingly without explanation.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • There's No Explanation for FashionZangarmarsh · Level 10-30

<Magasha chuckles softly to herself.> I bet if they knew they were wearing bug parts, the fashion trend would end very quickly. We first started killing the bugs 'round here 'cause they were getting in the way of our construction.
