The turn in point on my map was wrong, which seems to depend on where you are in the local quest chain while doing this quest. The turn in point for me was Sergeant Calvin at 44.74,64.60 inside the Deal Farmstead house.

There are glowing orange vials of [object=281887] everywhere. They provide a buff, but it's not what you seek. This is farming, not gathering.
,
[item=157850] is a Quillboar rage potion dropped by: [npc=130395]: Kill him first to stop the drumming.[npc=130073][npc=134425][npc=134141][npc=130075] The drop rate for [item=157850]s seemed low.
Beware. Briarbacks call out a warning to their kin when attacked: "Intruder! Thorn-breaker!"
Buffs [object=281887] is found in glowing orange flasks.
- Buff [spell=264870]: "Carrying an orange, angry smelling substance." 5 minute duration.
- The icon for the buff is same as the icon for the quest item: [item=157850]. This can be confusing.
- The buff puts an icon in the middle of the screen for the ability, "Enraging Vapours: Throw a Razorspine quilboar, causing it to attack all nearby targets".
[object=281888] is found in small dull green boxes on the ground and in the pool.
- Buff: Viscous Quill Repellent
- Description: "Covered in viscous goo. Less susceptible to quill-based attacks." 10 minute duration.
Ignore the icons for the 2 treasure chests. They're in Quilltop, are hard to access and change daily . I finally located one on a branch in the thorn ceiling and another in a room on a ledge you can only reach by jumping down from outside. Kill the Briarbacks and move on.

What to do
Description
These quilboar are tougher than normal and I think I found out why. They carry vials of some sort, filled with this nasty orange liquid. They'll quaff it and gain tremendous strength and stamina. I'll bet if we get some of it Hobbs could whip up a counter-agent, or whatever it is that alchemists do. Either way, deprive them of their strength potions and it'll make getting around here easier!

Oh my... how much time I wasted looking around the incorrect point on the map before seeing this. Bless you.

Before this quest

By all the gods of the sea, what a monster! I can barely believe what I am seeing, <name>. This ettin has undergone the same ritual that the brutes do, and it seems even angrier! If he gets out of here, we won't stand a chance.
