Strangely, this quest has absolutely no reward.
No XP, no reputation, no items, and not even a single copper.
I wonder if it was an oversight by Blizzard?

The issue you reported is working properly. That said, our developers have a watchful eye on all changes that were made and are wanting to hear players' feedback on these changes. If you think that this should be changed please visit our forums and make a well-written post on the forums located at http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/! If you have guild-mates or other players who feel the same it is suggested that they also contribute to the post! From there the developers will be able to take a look at it and possibly make some changes, maybe with your help!
My GM was a bit more helpful...
"I am really sorry that you experienced this recent issue. I will definitely be adding your information to our database to help our developers out in squashing this bug. Thank you very much for taking the time to report this to us. Here's a bit of information about what we do when we receive a bug report.
First, when a Game Master receives a report of a bug we take the information that the player gives us and let our developers know what is happening. Sometimes we have tricks that can help you to work around a bug, but we can't personally fix them in a permanent way so to resolve your issue, we personally send all the information to our developers and testers so that it can be looked at!
Then, once that information is sent to them, our testers have to test the bug and try to get it to happen again. The reason that that they have to do this is because without having the issue happen, they can't find a way to fix it. With more complex issues, this step can take a long time.
Finally, our developers have to look into how the issue can be fixed. Often times fixing one things can break a few others in the process if not done carefully so though in some cases we may know about an issue happening, it isn't something that can be fixed right away and it also isn't something that a Game Master can fix for you. This tends to be the longest step out of the whole process.
Game Masters are the first step in the process of fixing these problems but the most we can do is report that you are concerned about the issue and have it looked into; which I will definitely be doing for you! However actually fixing it is something that can take a very long time due to how complex the game is. Because of that, Game Masters can't really say how long it will take for something to get fixed, but thanks for reporting it!
Regards,
Game Master Daamtas

Description
I'm just a little guy, trying to set up my own independent business. Working hard toward the Azerothian dream, ya know? Well soon as I set up shop, the Venture Co. next door decided they wanted me out. They've been harrassing me with threatening letters, using words like 'cease' and 'desist.' Worst of all, the schematics for my newest machine are missing, and I know those corporate pilferers stole them! Go to the Sludge Fen and knock out some of their employees. I know they're hiding my blueprints!

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Read the Manual
Back when I was in the Tinker's Union, Boss Copperplug was the best engineer we had. He defected to the Venture Company shortly before I left, and took his greatest techniques with him. He hoarded his secrets, doling out bits and pieces of knowledge to his trusted inner circle.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Miner's Fortune
Hey <race>, you interested in treasure? I knew that would get your attention. Word from the river dock here is that one of the miners in the Venture Company's Boulder Lode mine just northeast of here discovered an emerald the size of your fist.
