5.3 has this quest bugged. After you detour from the Crossroads and go towards Deathgate's Outpost to the west, you'll have to cross over the Kor'kron cap between the two areas. Unfortunately, it seems that the Kor'kron Outriders in the camp don't take kindly to the Steamwheedle and shoot you dead if they catch sight of you. I've been unable to finish the Rocket Ride because of it.
