Ok, this quest nearly drove me crazy...
Firstly, no one mentioned, go to Tanaris, ride a dragon down to the Caverns of Time making sure to wave at the dragon on the way in. (tip: - always be friendly to random dragons)
Enter the instance that has the Stratholme type looking thingie whatever buildings around the start. Run 100 yards into the instance and up the elevated boardwalk thing, talk to the gnome. Go up the stairs on your right and you will end up in a cellar in an Inn where some bloke tells you to sod off nicely.
Make your way out of the Inn by the front door, this should be easy as there is no back or side door... and there (for me) was a crate just outside the door on the right. I have no idea if the crates all spawn in the same spot for everyone. Target the crate and use the Arcane Disruptor thingamabob on it. A noxious green gas starts wafting out of it. (1 down, woot!)
Look about 20 yards and there is a stone arch even Blind Freddy could see, there is a gypsy looking horse drawn caravan just to the left of it, bingo, a crate in plain view just near it. (2 down, woot!)
Run through the stone arch and you will find yourself in what would be loosely described as a village, well a few random houses anyways. 20 yards past the stone arch, first house on the right, another crate to the left of the front door. (3 down, woot!)
Second house on the left, another crate near it's front door. (4 down, woot!)
Another 40 yards down the road just near the two horses called "Pepper" and "Nell", the last is just near them. (5 down, woot!)
Now get on your mount and head west on the road and that gnome will be just before the bridge into Stratholme standing near a tree with a golden ? above it. Hand the quest in and get your grubby little hands on all that gold, 29g 60s for me at level 80.
Accept the next quest, do the instance and collect phat lewts.
Hope this helps.

Ok here's how this one goes; you use the quest item on ALL the crates. Not just 1, (as the quest text may have you believe!) ALL of them. You'll then get "quest completed" Then, head to the bridge leading into Stratholme, and you'll find Chromie at one end, hand in the quest and she'll give you the follow up. Shortly after Arthas, Uther and Jaina will arrive. You won't have killed ANY mobs yet, so this quest is soloable, even on heroic.
