TheWoWDBI killed about 20 of both Shamans and regular Gnolls without getting the quest. After I turned off the "Low Level Quests" I got it after the first Gnoll. Dunno if this'll help anyone.
I was playing a warlock so I just dotted em up and was wiping them out in flocks. Was wondering why I wasn't getting the quest.

i don't think this is available for alliance, i've killed about 100 gnolls and still no quest for me
I got this quest after killing a Mudsnout Shaman. Maybe it's a bug and the quest doesn't pop up when you kill Mudsnout Gnolls.
Once you have the quest, then killing either counts towards your total needed.

Description
Gnolls! These terrible little creatures are a blight upon any land - which is saying a lot when you consider that Hillsbrad is Forsaken territory. Kill as many of the gnolls at the Nethander Stead as you can. For the good of the world!
