TheWoWDBNote that while while it may be the most obvious way to reach the bottom, gravity-assisted descent is not such a good idea unless you have a plan for surviving its final part. If you look carefully, there's a spiral path along the edges of the pit that you can take instead. It's also the where the spirits for the side quest are.

How do you get out of the cave? when you go to the top there is no way out.
When I'm trying to navigate a winding, narrow ledge down a deep, deathly chasm... what I find the most helpful is to have a big, camera-blocking, hulk of a creature between me and my path. Thank you, Ariok. What would I do without you.
