It seems likely that Stalvan was actually just misinterpreting innocent kindness as signs of affection, and then flew into murderous nerdrage when he didn't get what he wanted. Sounds like most people in trade chat.

What to do
Description
I'm here because I received a letter from my brother Stalvan, who I haven't seen in years. On arriving here, I was told he was dead... The entire town refuses to offer any further explanation. Any mention of his name is met with terror and suspicion. As if I didn't have enough of that myself! I'm afraid of what will happen if my frustration and anger grows any further. I beg you, help me get to the bottom of this. Implore Clerk Daltry for any information he may have on my brother.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- The Embalmer's Revenge
You're not the first fool to be manipulated by Abercrombie! That doddering old man is known as The Embalmer to us. He's a vile necromancer and a blight upon this town. And now, sewn together and given life by the very materials you brought him, his horrible creation approaches!
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- The Stolen Letters
You want to know about Stalvan... You're not the first, you know. We get outsiders coming through asking about him every so often. Always outsiders. Everyone who lives here knows better. You're out of luck, anyway. I'm missing half the archives.
