So... unlike regular Skywall, you can't jump off the edge and be lifted back to safety. It is a loooooooooong way down.
I LOST the DAMAGED THUNDERFURY during this quest... do not fear!
I jumped towards the vortex after getting the "Heart of Skywall" to merge with the Damaged Thunderfury and fell to my death. When I rezzed I was outside the instance. I used the "Heart of Skywall" and it failed and my Damaged Thunderfury disappeared from my bags.
I was thinking, ... "oh no, I'm going to have to go get the Damaged Thunderfury again".. but, I figured I would run to where I looted the "Heart of Skywall" and re-killed Vortos (you can probably skip Vortos if you can get past him).
While in the instance this time try the vortex teleport, if you don't see the jump icon, try using your "Heart of Skywall" and then try the vortex. If it's working, then you can "jump" into the Vortex there (an arrow will appear in place of your cursor).. jump and you will be taken to the quest turn in. Thankfully you will see the ? and you do NOT have to go get the Damaged Thunderfury again.
Hope this saves someone dropping the quest and going back and grabbing it.

Description
There has been no Windlord to lead the air elementals since the death of Al'Akir. The realm of Skywall has been thrown into turmoil. The throne of Al'Akir is Thunderaan's by right, but what remains of the prince's essence within Thunderfury is diminishing. If we do not move quickly, Thunderaan may be lost forever. Take the damaged Thunderfury to Vortex Pinnacle and speak with Celestos. Celestos was a loyal servant of Al'Akir and he will share our desire to see Thunderaan reborn.
Where to go
